The differences in dosing and administration between semaglutide and tirzepatide also play a role in their selection. Semaglutide is typically administered once weekly via injection, providing a convenient dosing regimen for patients. In contrast, tirzepatide may require more frequent dosing but offers the advantage of improved weight loss outcomes. Understanding the dosing schedules and potential issues with adherence is important when deciding between these two medications. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide have shown promise in reducing cardiovascular risk factors and improving quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes.

One of the highlights following the 2024 American Diabetes Association conference was the Diabetes Forum & Reception, where experts discussed key news about diabetes technology, medications, and research. Experts emphasized the growing need for medications for type 1 diabetes like GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT-2 inhibitors, which are already approved for type 2 diabetes. Panelists also highlighted the rapidly evolving research on medicines for obesity management and the use of artificial intelligence to improve diabetes care. If you missed the 18th Annual Diabetes Forum & Reception, here are some of the highlights covering the latest on diabetes technology and medications >> bit.ly/3zqSR6v #myAMCR #HeadlandsResearchAMCR #DiabetesInformation #DiabetesEducation #DiabetesTechnology #DiabetesAdvancements #DiabetesConference

Screening for diabetes – does T1D have a leg up on T2D⁉️ Screening for diabetes should allow us to recognize the disease process early on, and where possible, better prepare to manage or delay the condition. 😩For type 2 diabetes, screening relies on glycemic measures that become abnormal only when a large amount of beta cells have been lost or damaged. But is it too late discovering the condition when so many beta-cell are no longer making insulin? 💡Many would think so! And here comes a novel concept in diabetes screening... And it is in type 1 diabetes! For type 1 diabetes it is possible to screen for the condition years to months before it reaches end-stage beta cell function, manifested by glucose abnormalities 👀In contrast to type 2 diabetes, the use of autoantibody testing allows us to detect early stage or pre-symptomatic type 1 diabetes long before glucose levels start rising. And this early detection has many advantages, including allowing us to better prepare for an eventual diagnosis of diabetes, which reduces the risk of a severe presentation at diagnosis, such as diabetic ketoacidosis. An early diagnosis of the autoimmune process also allows for interventions, be they research based or used in clinical practice. Please let me know if the diagram below captures this information in an easy to understand format, or please, send me suggestions! #type1diabetes #screenfortype1 #autoimmune #luigimeneghiniMD

Electronic Frailty index and hazard of with MACE event in patients with Type 2 diabetes melitus #OHDSISocialShowcase #JoinTheJourney Lead: Daeun Hyeon Team: Sujin Gan, Rae Woong Park Background: The prolonged presence of type 2 diabetes meliltus (T2DM) significantly elevates the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), affecBng approximately 30% of individuals with T2DM. This is aLributed to the associaBon between T2DM and aging-related processes, such as frailty and mulBmorbidity, which worsens the adverse effects of T2DM. Understanding the independent effect of frailty on CVD in paBents with T2DM could help idenBfy at risk for CVD earlier and reduce mortality in the context of novel therapies. However, the associaBon of frailty with incidence of CVD paBents with T2DM has not been thoroughly studied. Frailty index is a tool to assess the overall health and vulnerability of older individuals. However, the most commonly used frailty index, the Fried frailty index, requires addiBonal tests such as gait speed and grip strength for its calculaBon. There is a need to quanBfy frailty using only electronic medical record (EMR) and expand the use of the Frailty index. Therefore, this study aims to explore the associaBon between frailty index obtained from EMR and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in paBents with T2DM. https://lnkd.in/eHgWUWdT
