𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 - 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Hello Pharma Professionals, We will discuss about Airflow pattern study in Static and Dynamic Conditions, 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝘀 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻:- Ø Static is also referred as “At rest” Ø Static Smoke Study is with all equipment and system in place while having no personnel in clean room & no equipment in operation except HVAC/LAF/Tunnel etc. Ø This is only required for EU, not an FDA requirement. Ø It is defined in ISO 14644-1 as, “Condition where the cleanroom or clean zone is complete with equipment installed and operating…….but no personnel present” It is recommended to perform Static Airflow pattern with HVAC in operation, with no product or personnel present, and with process not running. Where “at rest” conditions have been used, it is important that a clean-up or “purge” be allowed after the sampling personnel leave the space, before other samples are collected. A period of at least 5 minutes should be allowed, with up to 15-20 minutes being fully appropriate. 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆:- Ø Dynamic smoke studies require presence of personnel involved in performing tasks Ø Personnel can influence the airflow pattern by just being there. Ø Therefore, it is required to show with smoke present, what occurs when operator is present and what impact it may have on the airflow patterns. Ø Operator movement, arm movement, body location, etc, can influence the airflow patterns. Ø This is critical for the successful smoke study and aseptic technique Ø The smoke must flow over the personnel and over their hands when performing the intervention Ø Smoke source must be directly above the persons hands or head Ø Observe the smoke flow, first air must be above over the hands or head Ø While performing the intervention in critical zone #visualization #pharma #fda #engineering #hvac #skilluptoscaleup #skillsforsterile #airflow #smokestudy #airflowpattern #sterile #sterileprocessing

Sterile Engineering - Airflow visualization Hello Pharma Professionals, Was discussing till now “Why” part of Airflow Visualization, now will go in more detail about “How to perform Airflow Visualization Study ?” How do we perform Airflow Visualization Study ? Ø How the Airflow pattern studies are performed is as important as the result of study Ø There are many factors that can influence the results, that are related to HOW to perform smoke studies, including but not limited to, Smoke Density Smoke Velocity Camera Placement and View Angle Lighting In this post, Smoke Density and Smoke Velocity shall be discussed, Ø Smoke Density - Too much smoke makes visualization difficult or impossible. - Smoke must be visible to observer, but not so heavy as to totally obscure vision of the activity or machine movement. - Adequate smoke density defines the success of smoke study. - Adjust the smoke velocity before starting to video - If you cannot see the activity being performed, you cannot make judgement on the airflow pattern. - Smoke density can be adjusted through smoke generator, should be adjusted to ensure optimum smoke density throughout video shooting. Ø Smoke Velocity - The speed at which the smoke is moving as it exits the ports on the smoke wand is the smoke velocity. - Excessive smoke velocity can create its own turbulence. A reviewer (FDA) looking at this cannot tell this if turbulence is due to the velocity or due to poor airflow pattern. - Smoke Velocity just at the HEPA filter and near return riser should be carefully visualized. - Smoke velocity must be controlled by adjusting the airflow speed at the source. - Excessive smoke velocity can also create vortices as the smoke hits solid surfaces at high speed. - Perform the test run before starting the video, and adjust as needed - Smoke should flow smoothly from the wand and descend downward like a “leaf falling from a tree” #engineering #pharma #visualization #sterile #sterileprocessing The Aseptic Architect #theasepticarchitect Pharma's Trailblazer #pharmastrailblazer #gauravdakshini

I chatted with one of Skellig Automation's newest MES Engineers, Susan Furlough about her career experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems. Check it out (hint, I'm 👾): ---------------------- 👾 You’re one of our newest hires, so welcome to the team! What’s your background in MES? 🔹 My background is in chemical engineering applied to the Life Sciences industry, and I started my career working in a lab. While working in the lab, I slowly started working with a MES on the side and began creating workflows for my lab work. 🔹I really enjoyed the structure and logic of working with a MES and have now been working with it for over a year where I had the opportunity to help create a system used to produce medicine. 👾 What kinds of MES projects would you like to work on in the future? 🔹I really enjoyed my past project of helping to create workflows for pharmaceutical production. I found it both motivating and gratifying to try to increase the efficiency and accuracy of a process being used to create medicine for patient use. 🔹Therefore, I would like to continue working on projects that contribute to the Life Sciences industry. I hope to continue learning more about the methods and techniques used. 👾 What are some of the biggest benefits of a great MES for Life Sciences manufacturers? 🔹I think a great MES has many benefits that together are able to increase the control over a manufacturing process. By increasing control, process variability and thus opportunities for defects are reduced. 🔹This is especially important in the Life Sciences industry where safety and compliance are a top priority. More specifically, I believe being able to process and utilize large amounts of production data is one of the biggest benefits that contributes to greater process control. ---------------------- Thanks for talking with me, Susan!
