Emirates Water and Electricity Company (#EWEC) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Taweelah C Independent Power Producer (IPP) project. This new #carbon-capture-ready Combined Cycle #Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant will be located in the Al Taweelah Power and Desalination Complex, about 50 km northeast of #AbuDhabi. The Taweelah C project will follow Abu Dhabi’s #IPP model, involving long-term agreements with EWEC. The successful developer or consortium will own up to 40% of the plant, with the remaining equity held by the Abu Dhabi Government. Set to begin commercial operations in Q3 2028, Taweelah C will generate up to 2.5 gigawatts (AC) using efficient natural gas turbine #technology. This project is a crucial part of EWEC’s strategy to #decarbonize #electricity and #water supply in the #UAE, supporting the country’s #netzero transition. Taweelah C will provide transitional capacity to integrate large-scale #renewable #energy and offer additional flexibility during peak #power demand. This landmark agreement is underpinned by a 10-year flexible natural gas sales and purchase agreement worth $10 billion. As EWEC continues to utilise transformative renewable and clean energy innovations to drive the decarbonisation of water and electricity supply in the UAE, supporting the country’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, gas-fired plants provide important transitional capacity enabling the continued integration of large-scale renewable and clean energy. The flexible natural gas supply will be delivered to plants across Abu Dhabi and the UAE and solidifies the shared commitment of both parties to drive sustainable economic growth in UAE. Transformation in utility and power industry happened at the World Utilities Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi! 🌍 Over AED45bn ($12.3bn) has been invested in clean energy projects, pushing our renewable energy capacity to new heights. We've already achieved a 27.83% contribution of clean energy to our total energy mix in 2023, well on our way to our 32% target by 2030. 🔋 Some of the exciting projects on the horizon include the impressive 1.8 GW Phase VI of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the innovative waste-to-energy project in Dubai, and major photovoltaic projects in Abu Dhabi, including the 1.5 GW Al Ajban and Al Khazna. State-owned oil and gas firm SNOC breaks ground on Sharjah's largest solar power plant ◾ Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), oil and gas industry executive arm of the emirate of Sharjah in the UAE, announced that it broke ground on the emirate's largest solar power plant. ◾ The 60MWp ground-mounted solar photo-voltaic ( PV) plant, located at SNOC's Sajaa Gas Complex, will be developed and operated by Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, for 25 years under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement, SNOC said in a press statement. ◾ The plant is expected to offset 66,000 tonnes CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to taking over 14,600 cars off the road each year. ◾ SNOC Chief Executive Officer, said: “SNOC is happy to witness this significant milestone on its path to achieve Net-Zero by 2032 across its own operations and to support the Emirate of Sharjah’s sustainability agenda and commitment to protecting the environment."  The source: Zawya #energyticslimited #energyefficiency #renewableenergy #solarpowerplant
