This week marks Anti-Slavery Week, an important time for us to reflect on the global issue of modern slavery and human trafficking. Sadly, it’s estimated that over 50 million people worldwide are trapped in some form of modern slavery, including forced labour, human trafficking, and exploitation. These are not just distant issues—they can impact people in our own communities and industries. At BBF, we are committed to ensuring that we do everything we can to prevent and address modern slavery, both within our own operations and in our supply chain through our Vendor Assurance team. Raising awareness is a crucial first step in combating this issue, and throughout this week, we’ll be sharing resources and actionable steps to help all of us better understand and contribute to this effort. Key Statistics: 🟥 50 million people worldwide are victims of modern slavery. 🟥 1 in 4 of these victims are children. 🟥 Forced labour generates approximately $150 billion/£114.9 billion in illegal profits annually. 🟥 About 71% of enslaved people are women and girls. This week, we’ll be using resources from Stronger Together, an organisation that provides businesses and individuals with the tools and knowledge to help end modern slavery. You can start by visiting their website for more information: https://lnkd.in/eZMV92A #modernslavery #antislavery #exploitation #strongertogether

Human Trafficking Crisis: A $150 Billion Industry of Exploitation Despite advances in human rights, slavery persists on a global scale, entangling an estimated 27.6 million people in its cruel grip. This modern-day slavery, known as human trafficking, manifests through forced labor and exploitation, making it a $150 billion industry that continues to grow as traffickers profit from human misery. Victims, including men, women, and children, endure severe physical and psychological abuse, often isolated from the outside world to break their spirit and ease control. This exploitation is not just a violation of human rights—it's an urgent humanitarian crisis that demands global attention and action. Let's raise awareness and work together to combat this heinous crime, advocating for stringent policies and stronger enforcement to protect the vulnerable and dismantle trafficking networks. #EndHumanTrafficking #ModernSlavery #HumanRights #FightExploitation #GlobalCrisis

Today is #WorldDayAgainstTraffickingInPersons. Human trafficking and modern-day slavery are pervasive global issues affecting nearly every country. This United Nations event aims to raise awareness and enhance prevention efforts. Each year, thousands of men, women, and children fall into the hands of traffickers. Many are deceived with false promises of better opportunities for their families, while others are forcibly taken or even sold by desperate families in poverty. No matter the method, the impact is devastating: 💔They lose their rights & identity 💔They are used and abused 💔It is a global problem, an industry not far behind drugs and arms in terms of profit for traffickers. Human trafficking is a global crisis, with profits rivalling those of the drug and arms trades. Victims are often forced into hard labour or s3xual exploitation without any compensation, stripped of their identity and documents, and threatened with severe consequences if they try to escape. In many cases, they are taken to foreign countries where they don't speak the language and have no means of seeking help, sometimes disappearing without a trace. To combat this global issue, we need a global response. The United Nations has organized the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness, promote vigilance, and garner support for prevention efforts. The protocol aims to punish traffickers and protect victims, striving for worldwide implementation. How can you raise awareness in your community to help eradicate exploitation once and for all? #KnowMorein24 #stophumantrafficking #ListenToSurvivors #theantislaverycollective

1wIt was my pleasure to host this session with and for EWMD Society. Thank you, Phil Bennett, for sharing your insights and for all the work you do on this topic. Thank you, Peter Schofield, for your tenacity. My key takeaways include: 📍 Raising awareness is essential. 📍 Start in your neighborhood—for example, ask about the origins of produce and the related working conditions. Begin with small steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Report incidents to the appropriate bodies, such as authorities or NGOs, depending on the specific situation. 📍 Engage with your member of parliament to discuss these issues.
