Our Partnerships Team recently took part in the United Nations’s 'Ecosystem Acupuncture' event, a platform for pioneering sustainable financing models aimed at accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. Mayors for Economic Growth #M4EG is a joint initiative of the European Union and UNDP. This initiative invites a rethink of cities’ economies, spaces, and processes to achieve positive changes and focus on modern trends.     It was launched in 2017 for local authorities as part of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative. The current phase of the program is being implemented by UNDP. In Ukraine, it is represented in 20 municipalities.   By the end of April 2024, 8 initiatives are marked as completed and provide tangible improvements for the communities, for example: ✔️ Nizhyn City established the municipal sewing workshop creating 30 new jobs for IDPs.  ✔️ Based on the Bucha Consultative and Diagnostic Center, a comprehensive rehabilitation department was opened in Bucha City.  ✔️ A dormitory has been opened in Hlukhiv City to provide shelter for 80 internally displaced people.  ✔️ Lviv received an educational space to conduct retraining/upskilling programs for local internally displaced persons.  ✔️ The greenhouse for growing microgreens has been set up in Slavuta City.  ✔️ The Training and Consulting Center for Business was launched in the City of Trostianets.  ✔️ As part of the project, the frontline village of Velyka Oleksandrivka in Kherson Oblast received assistance in restoring administrative and public services.  ✔️ A municipal resource center to support IDPs was launched in Kamianets-Podilskyi.    We expect that during 2024, M4EG projects will be completed in other 12 cities!    In the meantime, learn more about M4EG's mission and approaches in this video: #UNDPEUpartnership

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Rwanda for more than 40 years and has recently merged with GIZ Burundi. #Germancooperation🤝   We are pleased to share with you some of our activities and success stories below:   · The Digital Transformation Center Rwanda has trained 1,999 ICT professionals and scaled 227 startups! Over 200 events, 105k+ rural trainees (55k women, 300 PWD), and 78% now use 3+ new digital services. Driving digital inclusion and innovation!   · In the last 3 years, we’ve partnered with Rwandan Ministries and 30+ Civil Society Organizations (#CSOs) to drive positive change. We’ve trained over 100,000 public officials, connected youth, refugees, and #HumanRights activists across 7 countries, and provided 27,000 citizens with access to justice. Our initiatives have improved #SGBV prevention services for 15,000+ people, trained 900 para-social workers, supported Rwanda's Green Taxonomy (Fiscal) Decentralization, and the launch of Rwanda's new Social Registry, and trained 70 young economists. Together with the Rwandan Government and Civil Society, we are advancing #GoodGovernance and working to #ReducePoverty.   · Our project supporting #ICGLR promotes #peace, security & responsible #mineralresource governance in the #GreatLakesRegion. We focus on resource governance, #mediation & combating #SGBV interventions.   · The week-long training on #EnergyEfficiency organized this year equipped participants with practical knowledge on optimizing their energy consumption while considering #CleanEnergy solutions.   Fostering a #GreenRwanda🌿 through #GermanCooperation🤝   ·  Through our project #SustainableEconomicDevelopment 👇 :   - we kicked off a study programme for skills development in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sector together with the German Zentrum für Fernstudien im Hochschulverbund (zfh), European and Rwandan universities. - we continue our support for the economic inclusion of refugees and host communities with co-financing by the European Union. - together with Rwanda’s National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA) we launched a new phase of the Incubator Accelerator Facility for micro, small and medium sized enterprises in the wood value chain. - we continuously promote the Rwandan Global Business Services (GBS) sector together with RwandaICT, Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda GBS Growth Initiative and Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator Rwanda. - we started a new project focusing on women’s economic empowerment. - in a collaboration with Ampersand, we enabled over 50 women to earn their income as e-moto taxi drivers, who organised themselves in a community based company.

Despite progress, challenges like poverty, hunger, and inequality remain pervasive, often compounded by climate change and unequal access to technology. However, digital technologies offer new opportunities, especially in education, healthcare, and economic growth. Still on the Series 3 of 2024 AIIDEV Africa African Mentorship Program- AMP. The key highlights; Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa requires robust partnerships among various actors, including governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations. Resource Mobilization: Partnerships help pool financial, human, and technical resources. Governments may lack the funds and expertise required for large-scale development projects, while the private sector and international donors can provide necessary capital and innovation. Shared Expertise and Technology: Collaboration among different sectors promotes the sharing of knowledge and technology. For instance, private companies can introduce innovative solutions for renewable energy, while NGOs might provide insights into local community needs and effective implementation strategies. Policy and Governance Support: Effective partnerships can lead to better policy-making and governance. International organizations and civil society can support governments in creating and enforcing policies that are conducive to sustainable development. Inclusive Development: Partnerships ensure that development efforts are inclusive, considering the voices and needs of all stakeholders, including marginalized communities. Civil society organizations play a key role in advocating for vulnerable groups, ensuring that development is equitable. Monitoring and Accountability: Collaborative efforts enhance transparency and accountability. By involving multiple actors, it becomes easier to monitor progress, report on outcomes, and hold each other accountable for commitments made towards achieving the SDGs. Leveraging Strengths: Each actor brings unique strengths to the table. Governments have the mandate and reach to implement policies; the private sector has the innovation and efficiency; civil society has grassroots connections and advocacy power; and international organizations have the experience and networks to coordinate large-scale efforts. In essence, partnerships foster a holistic approach, integrating diverse perspectives and resources to address the multifaceted challenges of sustainable development in Africa.

African Policy and Research Institute (APRI) and Strategic Youth Network for Development : SYND GHANA convened a side event at #COP29 in Baku to discuss and share insights on increasing youth interest and participation in green technology development. As a panelist, I addressed the question on examples of successful youth-led green tech innovations, what lessons we can learn from these examples in Africa that have had a meaningful impact on local communities. I highlighted that key enablers for these successes which include: 📝Access to finance 📝Supportive policies 📝Skills development opportunities 📝Strong community engagement Drawing from my experience as co-lead of Strategic Youth Network for Development Young Green Entrepreneurs Programme, I emphasized that aligning innovations with local challenges ensures meaningful impact. Furthermore, building partnerships with governments, NGOs, and private sector actors is essential for scaling these innovations. When asked what advice I would give to African governments on localizing green tech innovation and enhancing youth participation, I suggested prioritizing: 📝Strengthening STEM education in communities. 📝Integrating local technology teaching into curricula. 📝Creating targeted policies to support youth innovators. These steps can provide the foundation for sustainable green innovation and greater youth inclusion.
