I've never known anything as confusing as job titles in marketing. Marketing Executive at one company ➡️ entry level, earning £20k Marketing Executive at another place ➡️ 3+ years experience, earning £35k In marketing 'executive' usually means you're just starting out, but in other industries, it's a title for those at the top of the ladder. The inconsistency in marketing job titles is baffling, and I bet almost every marketer with the SAME title has a completely DIFFERENT role and salary. Instead of chasing a fancy job title, look for a role that is going to fulfil you with the right experiences and offer the opportunities you want. It's easy to get caught up in chasing a title with 'Lead' or 'Head of' in it, but if the role is basically an exec, what's the point? And if you're looking for a job in marketing, DON'T focus on the job title. Instead, look at the description and criteria to see if the role is relevant for you. A job title shouldn't define your worth - it shouldn't intimidate you either.

Funny Cry, Keira! Like "Social Media Manager" , SM Specialist or Apprenticeship Advocate would do better in an imaginary/virtual "HR-marketing index of clarity". Or like is any industry / academic domain to not get the "benefits" /"reverse equity" of of our Generative Fever. I was [Analyst] Programmer for many decades, in both the communist/post-communist's social laboratories of Romania and it stayed like that long years after migrating to The Wild West, while working for a few small/large companies. It was at BofA were my title got "turbulent", not sure exactly why, the external tide caused The New Fashion of HR digitalization or the Creative Shake of a proactive reaction to the trend in a company with 14-15 levels of hierarchy, in its needs to accommodate a military-hierarchy model to the self-boiling agility of "re-evolutionary self-driving democratic vehicles" after we, the sons of Gods, re-quantified our lunatic goals.

A non-marketing related post this morning. We all know that LinkedIn is a great place to build a network, and find some really good candidates. However, it seems that LinkedIn might have slipped through a change that really impacts small businesses like mine. On Friday afternoon, I shared with my network that I’m looking for a Marketing Executive to join our awesome team. Within 30mins, LinkedIn told me that my job was no longer available because my ‘free posting’ only allowed ten applicants! Here’s the real kicker, and I wish I’d taken a screenshot at the time. To promote my ad, they ‘suggested’ that my budget allowance was to be set at $2,940. I know this specific number because I bemoaned it to Antonia at the time. I threw in a budget of $250 because a) I’d only just put it up on my own profile and b) comparatively, that’s what a job board charges. This covered until Sunday morning. The amount of time from a small biz that goes into hiring is immense, and a lot of that time is simply excluding the wrong fit and being honest because some people don’t tell the truth to the question – do you have the right to work and live in Australia? Over 50% of the applicants we received in two days do not have the right to live or work in Australia. Our role is not unique enough to sponsor anyone, so it's a hard truth that you need to be here in Australia. I also know that there is plenty of amazing talent looking for work in Oz right now! If I’m missing a LinkedIn job posting trick because we don’t do it that often, please hit me up with your top tips! I'll get off my soapbox now. TLDR: You’ll find our job posting now over on axel sukianto’s great marketing job board here: https://lnkd.in/g87AuyFx

The field of marketing is as straight as it is crooked. I find myself relating to this so much because as much as your skills do the talking , so does your experience. Keira Penney speaks the truth. Executive is just a title. Intern is just a title. Director is just a title. What the role entails is what matters. The growth curve it offers is what matters. The work environment among other things, matter. Focus on your growth curve more than the title. You'll be surprised how much more joy you will get from that. #marketingnuggets #socialmediamanager #digitalmarketingexecutive #marketingmanager

Being a #YoungProfessional myself, starting out in the market as a ‘Marketing Executive’ Is as confusing as it can be! What you can’t do is gather all the courage you have, no matter how much you have it, and go ask your superiors to give you a specific title beyond the position of #executive or increase your pay grade. What you can do is give your best and hope for the best! Am I right? What do you think? Help me give direction to my thoughts!

Marketing job titles are essentially marketing *themselves*—often misleading. Here’s the insight: companies exploit vague, impressive-sounding titles to attract talent or inflate roles without matching responsibility or pay. Instead of chasing the title, reverse-engineer your career—what skills, experiences, or network will move you forward? Focus on roles that challenge you, expand your abilities, and align with your long-term goals. The unexpected fact? A study by LinkedIn found that the fastest career movers ignore titles and prioritize growth and mentorship. Title inflation is noise—seek clarity and impact. #TitleTrap #CareerClarity #GrowthOverLabels
