Two years ago, I made one of those "crazy" leaps in my role with the American Red Cross -- I applied for (and was offered!) the position as Executive Director for my home chapter. There are a million and one things I could say about that decision, that leap of faith, that "Well...let's try this!" mentality - but that's not what this post is about. This post is to simply share that it was a move that has offered me the opportunity to dig into relationships in the communities we serve - with partners, community leaders, fellow non-profit leaders and of course - volunteers. And I have to say -- it's a piece of our work that I had been missing for a while now. Relationships at that LOCAL level. Talking through "things" with colleagues, partners and new acquaintances to find solutions - or just to talk it through. Building out my own network to include influencers and do'ers who have the same goal as I do -- to help my communities be even stronger together. Why Vision Boards are Essential for Your Career Growth. "A goal without a plan is just a wish, and a vision board is the roadmap to make those wishes come true." In this session, we explored the power of vision boards and their role in shaping our careers. We delved into what vision boards are and demonstrated how digital tools like Canva can simplify creating intuitive, personalized boards. Through a journey of self-reflection, we identified our strengths and weaknesses—key contributors to our accomplishments and challenges in the tech space. As the facilitator, I outlined the critical elements every vision board should feature: professional development goals, hard and soft skills, certifications, financial aspirations, work-life balance, and personal projects, among others. By the end of the session, participants left inspired, motivated, and equipped to take tangible steps toward their desired tech futures. Now, we’re all crafting our vision boards for 2025 with accountability partners by our side, ready to help us stay the course. Meet Mac Grimes, Director of Client Sales, with Consilium for 2 years. How has Consilium supported your professional development and career growth? My job at Consilium was my first job out of college. I had a few summer jobs here and there, but this was my first "real " job. So, I didn’t come in with the skillset of someone with experience in phones sales or someone who had been in the Locum Tenens business before. Consilium helped me develop the areas where I was lacking and taught me the skills I needed to succeed. I was able to start training people within 10 months. I hit senior-level in less than a year, and I should be a director in less than a total of two years. I’ve gotten to travel to my states multiple times for conferences and client visits. I’ve been lucky enough to be included in leadership classes each month covering different aspects of life, both personal and career-driven. Those leadership classes have helped me so much personally and career wise, and I’ve developed much faster than I thought was possible. What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter a client sales role? Some people might say experience, but I didn’t have that when I started – and I’ve been successful. So, here’s what I would say: Come in and be a sponge. Consilium has such an in-depth learning plan that focuses on you and your development, so soak it up. Have an attitude that you want to be the best, and live that attitude. This job is what you make it, so if you come in ready to learn and willing to put in the work, you can do great things. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
