It is calculated that the average American building nowadays is over 40 years old and consumes almost 40% of the nation’s total energy and nearly 75% of its electricity. This is no surprise, as old buildings rarely have any features that promote energy efficiency. 🌱 Donatas Karčiauskas, CEO of Exergio, states that AI-based energy performance solutions in commercial properties are no threat and have already proven great results in meeting energy efficiency and sustainability targets. Exciting breakthrough in sustainable living! Researchers from the University of Cantabria have pioneered a self-sufficient home, exclusively powered by photovoltaics, batteries, and hydrogen storage. Their innovative approach, combining PV panels and hydrogen (PVHyP), achieves year-round electrical self-sufficiency for a social housing unit. With meticulous energy management, tailored to battery charge and PVHyP flow, this pilot project showcases a promising solution for renewable electrification. Sized using software optimization and market analysis, the system includes 20 solar panels and four batteries, alongside hydrogen storage and a fuel cell. The results speak volumes: LCOE decreased significantly, tenants saved €1,170 annually, and a whopping 15,200 kWh of fossil fuels were saved, cutting CO2 emissions by approximately 2,260 kg. Investments in carbon-neutral energy production enhance the competitiveness of district heating, allowing for a more diverse range of products for customers. We aim to enable customers to actively manage and benefit from the energy system through their own actions. Helen's heating and cooling product and service range will be developed so that customers can determine their desired levels of energy affordability and sourcing through their choices. We also develop flexible consumption solutions together with our customers to avoid excess heating and enable demand response. Helen has started cooperation with both Helsingin kaupungin asunnot Oy (Heka) / Helsinki City Housing Company and Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki regarding the demand response of district heating, aiming for: 🔥 cost savings 🔥 reduced customer prices 🔥 more environmentally sustainable energy use
