Existing large-scale #buildingheight estimation studies focusing on coarse spatial resolution cannot reveal height variations across buildings in urban areas. The team proposed a deep learning-based super-resolution method to generate building height maps. The researchers created an open building height dataset with 45,000 samples covering 301 cities in the Northern Hemisphere, including China, the conterminous United States, and Europe. The dataset generated provides great potential in high-resolution database updating, #urbanplanning, and #naturaldisaster assessment, as well as a new perspective of how cutting-edge #satelliteimaging technology can be utilised in urban observation, measurement, monitoring, and management. 🌍 New Research Published in NDT.net! 🚀 In this study, we explored the impact of snowmelt-induced landslides on the "Villa Ilii" Viaduct along the A24 highway in Central Italy. With climate change intensifying natural hazards, our research highlights the integration of Differential Interferometry SAR (DInSAR) techniques and AI-driven Gradient Boosting Machines (GBMs) to assess deformation risks and enhance landslide hazard prediction. 🔍 Key Highlights: Detected deformation rates of up to +2.5 cm/year, emphasizing critical structural risks. Identified strong correlations between snowmelt dynamics and ground deformation, especially during late spring and summer. Achieved an 87% accuracy in landslide pattern recognition using GBM models, showcasing the power of combining remote sensing and machine learning. This work provides a robust framework for monitoring geohazards and designing resilient infrastructure, contributing to proactive disaster management strategies. I want to thank my collaborators (Dr. Simone Palumbo, Amirbahador Kouchakkapourchali, and Luigi Guerriero), my mentor for their guidance and support, Prof. Diego Di Martire, and NDT.net for providing a platform to share our findings. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/erh9GG_F Looking forward to connecting with others in the fields of remote sensing, geohazard monitoring, and AI applications in geosciences. (Hong Kong Time) on the PolyU campus and via Zoom. The lecture titled “𝐆𝐞𝐨-𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐃𝐆𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠” will be delivered by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐉𝐮𝐧, Professor/ Chief Scientist at the National Geomatics Center of China, Beijing, China. A systematic follow-up and review through indicators-based tracking and reporting of the progress towards 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) through integration of statistical and geo-information is a challenging task and hot topic for both governmental agencies and scientific communities. This presentation will present a United Nation recognised good practice on #geospatial information-enabled SDGs monitoring, which demonstrates how the overall SDGs progress at a local context can be well measured through developing a set of indicator-based, data driven and evidence-supported approached with a #geographic perspective, and establishing a cooperative partnership among all stakeholders to mobilise resources. The follow-up and review results provided not only an overall picture about how far the study area is from the 2030 SDGs, but also helped the local government to formulate a five-year action plan to address the identified gaps and challenges with tangible actions and allocated resources. Although geo-spatial information played a critical and irreplaceable role, the current 2-2.5 D data used had demonstrated some limitations. More reliable data and automatic techniques remain to be developed. This presentation further presents China’s national program on the development of 3d Realistic Geospatial Landscape Model (3dRGLm), which is a new generation geospatial data product with 3D structures, realistic scenes, and geospatial entities.
