📢 EU project LIGNICOAT joins the ExpandFibre Ecosystem! 🌲LIGNICOAT BBI Project, funded by the Bio-based Industries JU (BBI JU) under the Horizon 2020 funding programme, seeks to demonstrate the technical, economic and environmental viability of innovative routes to produce lignin-derived bioresins for coatings and validate the new processes at pilot scale in an industrially relevant environment. 🌲Michele Ponzelli, Ph.D., who is leading the dissemination, communication and exploitation activities for the project, told us more about LIGNICOAT, which is perfectly aligned with the themes of the ExpandFibre Ecosystem and Programmes. 🚀 Exciting Milestone in Norway! I’m thrilled to announce that a few weeks ago, Bioland AS successfully installed and commissioned their first Pyrolysis Boiler C160-F in Norway! 🎉 A huge thanks to Knut Møyner Hohle and Hans anders Kjos and his team, and the entire BioLand AS team for their dedication and expertise in making this project a reality. Emphasizing that you have managed to get it all done without requiring that anyone from Biomacon had to come out. Special gratitude also goes to Aleksander Systad and his project team at Risa AS, a passionate and innovative client from Norway’s contracting sector, renowned for their infrastructure solutions. Your enthusiasm and support were invaluable! 🙌 Thanks for this great Video! Risa AS is now able to generate 1.280GWh of regenerative heat annually and produce 165t of biochar per year with a carbon storage capacity of approximately 400tCO2eq/a. 🌍This marks the 4th Biomacon Pyrolysis system we have successfully developed in Norway as Decarbo-Engineering GmbH —and the first collaboration with Bioland AS. With applications targeting medium-sized operations (1,000-2,000 t/a feedstock input), we’re confident this is just the beginning of an exciting journey in advancing sustainable solutions in the region. 💪The partnership with Bioland has grown over the past three years, and seeing the momentum now—starting with the first order last year and two more systems already in line—is truly rewarding. 👏 Big respect to BioMaCon GmbH and Ulrich Suer for designing such a robust and versatile BCR system, catering to feedstock capacities from 500 t/a to 2,300 t/a. 🎉 GRANT AWARDED ! 🎉 🤑 £700,000 project ! 🤑 🔬 For the last 5 months and the next 15, we are honoured to collaborate with CPI on the development, optimisation and up-scale of the biosynthesis of two innovative biomaterials using the waste streams of #seaweed #extraction processess up to 1500L of fermentation ! 🌊 #Seaweeds offer enormous potential as a source of valuable chemicals and materials as sustainable and renewable alternatives to fossil-fuel derived equivalents. Key to unlocking their potential is obtaining maximum value through efficient resource use. 🧫 Currently, the seawed industry relies mainly on the extraction of #hydrocolloids which often represent 10-40% of the #biomass... the rest is nearly always discarded ! Empowering the magic of #microorganisms, our wonderful team of #biotechnologists and #chemists, Afifa Anis, Enrico Green, Deep Bhattarai, Andrew Maneffa and Sevven Smith led by our brilliant CSO Mattia Parati have come up with a way to turn this fraction into high added value biopolymers which can be use din many applications of the #cosmetic, #packaging and #pharmaceutical industries. 🙏 Immense thanks to the CPI team who we will be working with, Deepan Shah, Lindsay Blain, Lewis Allen, Stephen Oyston and their colleagues who have helped crafting the application with us ! 🙏 Great thanks to the Innovate UK team as well, Nick Cliffe and Paul Bello who have always supported our efforts and continue to make FlexSea thrive through innovation projects. ♻ By the end of the 20-month project FlexSea aims to reinforce our current patent of the tehcnology and employ the material synthesised to undertake #commercial #pilots with several industry partners.
