𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞: 𝐀 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Guyana and Suriname are abundant in natural resources, and both nations stand to benefit from their shared potential. H.E. Conrad Enill emphasized the critical need for collaboration, highlighting Trinidad and Tobago's long-standing experience in the energy sector. One of the key examples of such collaboration is the partnership between Trinidad and Suriname’s Staatsolie, a state oil company, which has been central in driving forward Suriname’s energy ambitions. As both Guyana and Suriname face growing demands for energy and infrastructure expansion, there is an urgency to increase capacity. Trinidad's expertise, particularly in oil and gas, can help accelerate the process. The collaboration between the countries, as demonstrated through Staatsolie's partnership with Trinidadian companies, is a model for how regional cooperation can help unlock vast opportunities. The success of these partnerships depends on the willingness to collaborate, expand knowledge, and combine resources. By working together, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad can harness their strengths, expand their energy capacities, and foster long-term, sustainable growth across the region Events like the IBC highlight the value of collaboration in shaping a prosperous future for Suriname and the region. Business leaders and investors are encouraged to engage, explore, and contribute to this dynamic landscape. https://lnkd.in/eesJhhSb #EnergyCollaboration #StaatsoliePartnership #RegionalGrowth #SustainableDevelopment

The Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Block 58 project, with US$10.5 billion invested earlier this month, marks a monumental moment for Suriname, paving the way for thousands of jobs and new opportunities in oil, gas, infrastructure, and manufacturing. President Santokhi highlighted the 700 million barrels of recoverable resources expected from the Gran Morgu fields, developed by TotalEnergies and APA. He explained that this development is more than an economic success—it’s a pivotal moment that will lead to job creation, local capacity-building, and energy collaboration across borders. Suriname’s new oil revenue will be reinvested in critical infrastructure, such as roads, ports, schools, and healthcare, improving the quality of life for citizens. President Santokhi assured that local content policies will ensure that Surinamese workers and businesses benefit from these developments. The Surinamese leader also emphasised the shared history and cultural ties between Guyana and Suriname, calling their collaboration a defining moment for the region. He noted that both countries are now positioned to be pivotal players in the global energy market, with joint developments in oil, gas, and manufacturing strengthening their bilateral ties. Additionally, plans for a Corentyne River bridge are underway, further boosting trade and infrastructure development between the two nations. Norway is the biggest energy supplier in Europe, and one of the largest exporter of fossil gas worldwide. Despite a common picture of Norway being „green“, it is one of the world’s prime countries to expand fossil fuel infrastructure. Most recently, the government awarded dozens of exploration licenses to drill in the Barents Sea. Meanwhile, the Oil Fund has grown to 4 times its GDP giving lasting wealth to the Norwegian people and unparalleled fiscal space to the government. In the past weeks, I talked to the environmental movement, political parties, companies, the Norwegian government, and academics to understand how a meaningful and just transition to a post-fossil economy can be achieved. One thing is clear: it’s going to be a struggle. Not because there are no other jobs, or no economic alternatives. Rather because a common myth of shared prosperity protects the power of the state-industrial complex around Norwegian Oil. But what does that prosperity mean on a heating and dying planet? My next stop is the UK where a new Labor government announced to stop new licensing for oil and gas in the North Sea. I am curious to hear how the UK navigates this landmark decision, from which many other rich countries that still allow and support new fossil fuel projects can learn #canada, #US, #norway, #saudiarabia, #quatar, #australia
