Subsea7 today announced the award of a sizeable contract by Shell Offshore Inc. in the US Gulf of Mexico. The project involves the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of a production flowline and related subsea infrastructure at Shell’s Phase 3 Silvertip development, located in the deep waters of Alaminos Canyon, with depths reaching up to 3,000 metres. Its not often that companies open up their hearts and minds to their competitors and peers, but on March 28th at the Chester Hotel, Aberdeen, Shell UK, AF Offshore Decom and Able UK will do exactly that, and share events at their facilities that did not go well; what happened, why it happened and what they have done to prevent recurrence. TechnipFMC, a global leader in subsea, onshore, offshore and surface technologies serving the energy sector approached Best Management Products Inc (BMP) with an application for their SNOUT water quality hoods in 2019. Juan Toro, P.E., a principal engineer at TechnipFMC, advised that their client, a major oil and gas company, was expanding a portion of its Gulf Coast industrial facility. For that project, a new drainage system was required, and that is where BMP learned of the challenge. Typically, the hoods are only installed over the outlet pipe of a sump style storm water structure, skimming off floatable pollutants and allowing heavier solids to sink. However, for this application, the hoods were needed on both the inlet and outlet pipes of the structures to isolate the pipe network from potentially flammable or explosive vapors and liquids. Aker BP has let a 2-year contract extension to Aker Solutions for maintenance and modifications work covering certain operated field centers offshore Norway.  The contract extension, valued by Aker Solutions at NOK 0.5-1.5 billion, covers field centers Valhall & Hod, Ula & Tambar, Alvheim, and Skarv and runs for a fixed period from December 2024 to December 2026 under an existing frame agreement.
