Asia-Pacific leads global passenger growth in May 2024 During May 2024, all regions witnessed significant growth in international passenger markets compared to May 2023, with Asia-Pacific airlines taking the lead in this positive trend. Asia-Pacific airlines continue to lead the way, with a 27% year-on-year increase in demand. Capacity increased 26% year-on-year and the load factor rose to 81.6% (+0.6ppt compared to May 2023). This performance maintains Asian carriers as the largest contributor to industry-wide growth in May, accounting for 42% of the year-on-year increase. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for March 2024 global air cargo markets showing 14 percent year-on-year demand growth for African airlines. "Air cargo demand grew by 10 percent over the previous March. This contributed to a strong first quarter performance which slightly exceeded even the exceptionally strong 2021 first quarter performance during the COVID crisis. Asia Pacific Airlines See Strong Growth in Air Cargo Demand 🌏 Cargo Surge: Asia Pacific airlines saw a 13.7% increase in international air cargo demand in April, driven by consumer and intermediate goods. Despite a rise in freight capacity, the load factor slightly declined. Over the first four months of 2024, demand surged by 15.4%, supported by robust global demand and positive business confidence.
