This EV battery was swollen. Due to cell imbalance and high IR, such swelling happened to it. The EV workshop owner uses the slang 'Pregnant Battery' for swollen ones. The name is debatable, but he said that this helps in understanding and segregation. EV Doctor was initially put wrongly in connection, which resulted in inaccurate results (obviously). AGM vs. Sodium-ion? 1. Voltage Both AGM and Sodium-ion batteries have the same voltage, rated at 12V. This makes them interchangeable in terms of power supply requirements. 2. Capacity Both battery types offer a capacity of 200Ah, suitable for high-capacity needs. 3. Weight Sodium-ion batteries are significantly lighter, weighing only 26kg compared to the 61kg of AGM batteries. This represents a 58% reduction in weight, making Sodium-ion batteries much easier to handle and ideal for applications where weight is a concern. 4. Charge and Discharge Rates Max Continuous Charge Rate: Sodium-ion batteries can be charged at 3C, which is 250% faster than the 0.5C rate of AGM batteries. This allows for much quicker charging times. Max Continuous Discharge Rate: Similarly, Sodium-ion can discharge at 3C, which is 200% higher than the 1C rate of AGM batteries, providing more power output when needed. 5. Operational Temperature Range Charge Temperature: Sodium-ion batteries can be charged at temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C, a wider range compared to the 0°C to 40°C range of AGM batteries. Discharge Temperature: Sodium-ion batteries also excel in discharge temperature range, operating efficiently between -30°C and 70°C, significantly broader than the -15°C to 50°C range of AGM batteries. 6. Lifespan and Durability Sodium-ion batteries offer up to 3,000 cycles at 70% depth of discharge (DOD), far outperforming the 500 cycles at 50% DOD provided by AGM batteries. This makes Sodium-ion batteries more durable and cost-effective over their lifecycle. Conclusion Sodium-ion batteries provide a substantial improvement over AGM batteries in terms of weight, charge and discharge rates, operational temperature, and lifespan. - Do you know how the battery charger charge the battery? In this post we will show how the battery charged. A battery charge cycle describes the voltage and current relationship in a battery as the charger returns the energy capacity to the battery. Different battery chemistries, such as lead acid, Ni-Cad, etc. require different methods of charging. The three-stage described below, charging cycle, are for lead-acid batteries. Stage 1: Constant current charging or bulk charge Mode/Stage. During this initial stage, the charger applies a constant current to the battery until it reaches a predetermined voltage (the battery's maximum voltage). This stage quickly brings the battery up to about 70-80% of its capacity. It’s designed for speed but generates heat, so it’s important to monitor the battery temperature. Stage 2: Absorption Mode/Stage. In this stage, the charger switches to constant voltage. The voltage remains steady while the current gradually decreases as the battery approaches full charge. This stage ensures that the battery cells are balanced and fully charged, preventing overcharging. It can last from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the battery type and condition. Stage 3: Float Charge Mode/Stage. Once the battery is fully charged, the charger switches to a lower voltage to maintain the battery at full capacity without overcharging. This is known as the float stage. It helps to keep the battery topped off and compensates for self-discharge, ensuring that the battery remains ready for use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This three-stage charging algorithm optimizes battery life and performance while minimizing the risk of damage.
