May we learn from Captain Nelson actions; and what it means to go above beyond
Today, President Biden posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor to Capt. Hugh R. Nelson Jr, ‘59 — the first Citadel graduate to receive the nation’s highest military honor. Nelson was killed in Vietnam in 1966 attempting to shield his downed helicopter crew from enemy fire. Due to his heroism, his crew survived the crash and rescue — including fellow Citadel graduate Capt. Bailey Jones, ’64. Read more, and watch the presentation, here: https://bit.ly/4gRV8Ik

✨ "Living with honor transitions to living with pride." Have you ever considered how pivotal moments redefine our journey from honorable beginnings to a life filled with pride? In the world we navigate, especially for veterans, the transition from military to civilian life is not just a change of environment—it’s a transformation of identity. Living with honor doesn't end with service; it propels you into a life defined by pride in new achievements and contributions to society. This shift requires courage, resilience, and continuous adaptation. The journey is a testament to the skills and strengths honed through service that can be successfully applied beyond military life. Consider it a personal call to embrace each new step with the same dignity and resolve you held in the line of duty. You're not just carrying forward the pride of individual accomplishments but also the shared honor of your comrades. This transition is a legacy—one that transforms challenges into opportunities and experiences into wisdom. 🔑 Here's something to ponder: How are you channeling your honor into pride today? Let's inspire each other by sharing how these transitions have enriched our lives. Your experiences might just be the motivation someone else needs to hear. #VeteranLives #HonorAndPride #TransformationJourney

I am very excited for this birthday 🎂 🥳 🇺🇸. 250yrs deserves a full year of celebration. Once a Marine, always a Marine will be displayed this year across all corners of the #USA and everywhere else Devildogs are next year in 2025. So, in the interest of helping my friends and network that don't speak #USMC, here are some things you are likely to hear. I will be sure to add to this list but please feel free to help grow it or comment a Marine language questions 😀 First Four: (1)"Ooh-Rah!" This is the second most versatile word in English, with the first not appropriate for LinkedIn 😎 and can be used as everything from a battle cry to a way to say yes. (2) "Retreat Hell! We've just got here!" This is sometimes used when it's (potentially) time for a Marine to leave a party, but its origins go back to WWI. (3) "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war." This is used for almost any situation that normal people might consider hard or challenging but in which Leathernecks charge forward and get done. (4) "Semper Gumby" is a fun alliteration play on the Marine Corps motto (Semper Fidelia) and is used to indicate the virtue of being always willing and "always flexible" to reach mission accomplishment. #SemperFi -GSP-
Throughout 2025, the #MarineCorps will engage in a nationwide campaign celebrating our 250 years as a Corps, featuring two national-level capstone events and six Marine Weeks across major cities, proudly showcasing the warfighting spirit of our Corps. Being a #Marine is not just a duty – it’s a calling that demands the best of each of us. We will carry forward the torch of honor, courage, and commitment, illuminating the path for those who will follow. This is a year to celebrate two and a half centuries of battles won, with a ruthless defense of our nation and our Allies for the next 250 years. Semper Fidelis!

Next year, the Marine Corps will celebrate 2.5 centuries of forging paths with their Warfighter spirit! 🎉 Congratulations and thank you to all who have, are, and will serve in years to come. The team here at XRT has had the honor of supporting the #Marines in their pursuit of digital transformation in training and force modernization efforts through our rapid development and fielding of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle Driver Training System (ACV-DTS). With this solution, operators of the 35-ton vehicle are now able to get earlier, more frequent access to simulated in-vehicle training. Built for portability and minimal resource requirements, the ACV-DTS also accelerates training timelines, increases trainee throughput, and bolsters readiness at the point of need. We look forward to another year of progress, in support of the Marines, and we’ll be here cheering along through next year’s celebrations. Want to learn more about the ACV-DTS? Today, Sunday, May 5th, we commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Not only to honour the struggle, sacrifice, and loss, but also to celebrate heroism and courage in the face of daunting obstacles. The longest battle of the Second World War, it lasted from the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939 until victory in Europe in May 1945. But victory came with a high cost. 4,600 Canadian lives were lost, and the Royal Canadian Navy lost 14 warships to U-boat attacks and another eight ships to collisions and other incidents in the North Atlantic. However, the battle completely transformed the Royal Canadian Navy, quickly expanding it from a tiny, ill-equipped, and under-trained force into one of the largest navies on earth. But any battle is about more than facts and figures. It is about the people who fought, and their stories of courage and grit. Join us in commemorating the heroic Canadians who gave their all in the Battle of the Atlantic so that we may have the chance to live in peace.

I had the privilege of attending the Strengthening Families: Neurodiversity Workshop, hosted by the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity. Hearing directly from those passionate about enabling change within the naval community was both powerful and inspiring. Locally, thanks to the support of RNRMC, we are delivering inclusive community events and programmes tailored for neurodiverse children and their parents. These initiatives address challenges such as mobility and emotional wellbeing and have been identified as key areas for Service Pupil Premium (SPP) funding. Through this, we’re providing targeted support, including wellbeing interventions, transition support, and parent engagement. Nationally, we are expanding our efforts through our Service Ambassadors and collaborating with partners to strengthen support for service families across the UK. By uniting voices and sharing best practices, we’re helping to influence meaningful change and ensure SPP funding is effectively meeting the needs of service children. A huge thank you to all the wonderful attendees for your insights and contributions. 💙 #Neurodiversity #StrengtheningFamilies #ServiceFamilies #RNRMC #ServicePupilPremium #KingsGroupAcademiesBayHouse #KingsGroupAcademiesBrunePark
