Funding news: Paris-based Climate Tech startup Estuaire has secured €2.2 million in Seed funding, led by Satgana, to advance its data analytics platform. Estuaire’s E-Engine technical stack integrates multiple aviation data streams to provide precise insights into CO2 and non-CO2 emissions, such as contrails, aiding in comprehensive climate mitigation strategies and aligning with frameworks like the Pegasus Guidelines. Satgana General Partner Romain Diaz expressed confidence in Estuaire’s leadership: “Ever since we met with Maxime Meijers and Nicolas Meijers, we were impressed with their depth of knowledge, experience, drive, and sense of mission, making it clear that they are the kind of founders who can truly shake up an industry." The EU is targeting a 90% reduction in transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Though autonomous and electric vehicles have a big part to play, achieving a more sustainable mobility sector demands a comprehensive approach – improving data and tech solutions to enhance mobility, transport, supply chains and resources. Employing over 10 million people, the EU's transport industry is critical to European businesses and global supply chains, which means integrating digital and smart solutions can have a massive positive impact with a global effect. While it's no small task, the 12 EIC Scaling Club “Smart Mobility” market group members are in a prime position to take on this challenge, having already: ➡ 145 active investors, ➡ Raised a total of €482.45M, ➡ Raised, on average, €40.2M per company, ➡ Raised, on average, €8.6M per round. easyJet has become the first European airline to partner with US-based startup JetZero, which is developing blended-wing aircraft. At a Net Zero tech showcase marking the second anniversary of easyJet’s Net Zero Roadmap, the airline revealed the partnership at its latest zero-carbon initiative. Johan Lundgren, CEO at easyJet, said: “Our research shows unequivocally that UK travellers are banking on tech developments to preserve their ability to fly and see the world.” The ultimate goal is to fly zero carbon emission hydrogen aircraft. McLaren Racing uses a sustainable seat made of natural fibers in its race cars. This Swiss brand is behind this innovation… Carbon fiber is a commonly used material. Its lightweight & strength make it superior to steel. It’s used to make aircraft & spacecraft parts. It’s also used in racing car bodies, golf club shafts & skis. But carbon fiber comes from fossil fuels. We emit 20 tons of CO2 to make 1 ton of carbon fiber. Swiss startup Bcomp Ltd has found an alternative to that. It has created bio-based composites. That are made of materials such as flax. They are super lightweight & tough as carbon fiber. A multitude of brands use these: 🏎️ Porsche Motorsport & McLaren Racing 🚘 Polestar and BMW 🚀 European Space Agency ⛵ Baltic Yachts and Greenboats ⌚ Hublot This helps the brands reduce their dependence on fossil fuels. The plane, designed for pilot training schools, is made from carbon fibers and produces 70% less CO2 than the traditional models. We featured Elixir as part of our special issue on Sustainable Aviation. Elixir is emblematic of how the government is trying to boost this critical sector. Last year, it received €13m from the France 2030 fund in grants and subsidies. And the latest equity round includes money from the Bpifrance Amorçage Industriel (Industrial Seed) fund created last year to help Deep Tech companies scale production. Léopold-Léger said that the nation is lagging when it comes to new forms of sustainable aviation and Elixir Aircraft is pushing hard to change that. "We are far behind when it comes to light aviation," he said. "The French government's strategy is to make sure that we keep the lead wherever we have the lead, and we work to gain a lead on the markets where we don't have yet innovation." https://lnkd.in/ew7urYJN

This is just the beginning of the emerging battery story. In 5-10 years, we will look back at existing and old developments and say or think: OMG, how could we drive or even charge with these concepts from the year 2024 😀. Compare it to the first mobile phones and modern smartphones 📱. Isn't their comparison and development between 2010 and 2014 just as bizarre, almost unimaginable? 🚀
