Hockey stats in football? Icehockey players are not on the ice the whole game. Right? They sub on and off. To measure a player’s impact, the “plus and minus“ stat is used. What happened when YOU were on the ice? This doesn’t make sense in football, when you play all 90 minutes. However👀 Here’s 19-year old Maja. First year in Allsvenskan. Has played anywhere from 25 to 78 minutes for AIK each game Her plus and minus? INSANE⭐️ AIK has not had a winning result on the field ALL YEAR without Maja on the field (!) except for against Trelleborg (bottom of the table) They have also never had a losing result with Maja on the field (!!) except for against the top 3 (Rosengård, Häcken, Hammarby) On top of this, She has directly contributed to 20% of AIK’s goals (either scored or assisted) With only 5 starts! Not one single game of 90 yet. Isn’t that insane? For context: AIK are currently second last in the table, out of 14 teams. Maja has played in 16 of the teams 22 games. (Which makes it even more impressive)

Fantastic read on the intersection of building analytics and how users feel about them. Point 1. Build it and they’ll use it doesn’t exist. It doesn’t solve the WIIFM. As 2 pro goalies are quoted, I see the value but it doesn’t help me do my job any better. Plus, as a technical pro, much like senior claims adjusters, they didn’t ascend the ranks via luck. Point 2. It’s great for the leadership team and company. True. This is where where the biggest payoffs lies: those that control the work of others. Get them to buy in, use it & implore their underlings to use analytics and you’ve hit a homer (yes I’m blending sports analogies.) Point 3. Use but don’t abuse analytics. Absolutely. They serve a significant purpose and will empower you to make a more informed, data-infused decision, but it’s the merger of technical acumen/experience augmented by analytics, a human in the loop design, that delivers the best outcomes. —- The technical build is really important, you need good data all the time and you must dial in UX….
