🤝 Public-private partnerships are an emerging approach to help appropriately fund promising technologies such as alternative proteins to ensure they can reach their full potential with less exposure to prevailing economic headwinds – in particular overcoming expensive barriers to R&D such as accessing the necessary infrastructure to scale processes. First results from our flagship EIF #VC Survey 2024 are in! 🆕 Check the top 20 slides here for current market sentiment and outlook based on responses from 398 GPs across Europe. Top challenges (still) relate to the exit environment #IPO, difficulties around #fundraising, and the availability of #scaleup financing. Slide 6 shows an evolution of these aspects in a 3-year comparison 💡 For investment areas, a large share of VC respondents' portfolio companies are active in #AI, #Deeptech, and #Cleantech; whilst promising sectors are expected to include #biotech, #energy and #climate related solutions. ⚙️ Our surveys are conducted with the support of Invest Europe #VCF24 and include #venturecapital and #privateequity fund managers - both backed and non-backed by the EIF. Must read for #innovation #vc #startup #scaleup community 👀🔎🎁 Check the summary slides. VC sentiment in Europe is optimistic but persistent uncertainty in exits and fundraising impact the market. When looking at exits, 28% and 19% relate to trade sale or PE sale respectively (whilst 29% on liquidation!). Another challenge is lack of LPs or institutional investors backing VC- no news here when we talk about innovation finance. Outlook for portfolio seems to be positive on company development, but startups still face hurdles related to seed finance and customer acquisition- that is why improving SMS #investmentreadiness is so fundamental. My takeaway- the role of public institutions is not only related to #derisking and bringing follow on/scale up finance to the system, but focusing on strong investment platforms and #businesssupport as a means to strengthen any economic sector. This involves training investors on business opportunities, helping start ups to commercialise and scale on the market, supporting a community of investors and raising awareness among institutional investors on why they should finance innovation.

TransCap Initiative held its first #Zurich convening on Systemic Investing last Nov 11. Fourfold’s Valerie Remoquillo-Jenni joined a panel that explored questions around effective collaboration within asset classes and among actors across the capital spectrum.   Fourfold supports TransCap's pilot study on systemic investing for food systems in Switzerland, with the aim of galvanizing efforts among financial stakeholders so that capital can be directed in meaningful ways across the value chain.   💡Valerie says, “There is an important momentum for food systems transformation in Switzerland, led by citizens, scientists and civil society. By understanding the financial stock and flows in this complex space, funders and investors can become more targeted and purposive, and help make real impact with our resources."
