Looking forward to joining fellow industry leaders at this year’s IDDST-International Drug Discovery Sciences & Technology Congress in Budapest! I am particularly excited to discuss how drug development in women’s health can uniquely leverage female biology to customize delivery methods and durations for optimized outcomes. If you are attending or will be in the area, let’s connect and talk all things #womenshealth!
Next week our President and CEO Sabrina Johnson will be in Budapest, Hungary for the 20th Annual IDDST-International Drug Discovery Sciences & Technology Congress where industry leaders from around the world will come together to discuss the latest global market trends for drug discovery. At this year’s event, Sabrina will give a presentation titled, “Drug Delivery Designed for Her – Optimizing Outcomes by Customizing Route, Mode, And Duration of Drug Delivery in Women's Health”, which will explore how leveraging female biology with diverse drug delivery platforms—including intravaginal methods and other non-oral routes—enables customized therapeutic delivery to optimize outcomes in women's health. If you are attending this year’s event, Sabrina will be available to connect! #womenshealth

🌍 💊 Understanding the genetic differences in how medications affect diverse populations is crucial for personalized healthcare. Localized medical research plays a pivotal role in uncovering these nuances, especially in pharmacogenetics. Different ethnicities can react differently to drugs due to genetic predispositions, influencing everything from drug absorption to side effects. Take warfarin, for instance - a commonly prescribed blood thinner. Its effectiveness and safe dosage vary among individuals of different ethnic backgrounds. By supporting local medical research, we support to ensure that healthcare adapts to the unique genetic makeup of our communities, enhancing treatment outcomes and patient safety. Let's advocate for inclusive research that reflects our diverse world! 🌏 💉 #futuremed #venturecapital

Nothing is more inspiring than to meet the Nobel Laureate Dr. Katalin Karikó, who was able to overcome many challenges, and at the end, she helped humanity to overcome its biggest health crisis. This month was transformational. I was able to share with extraordinary women scientist my biggest concerns about the future of our global healthcare, and receive reassurance that help is on the way. There are over 160 on-going clinical programs, using her discoveries, to overcome major diseases. It provided me with renewed hope, and yet I immediately realized that we will need all the help we can get to launch them as quickly as possible. One...six...zero - that's a lot of launches to shape, educate, and guide the market on the best way to adopt new treatments. It takes time, resources, and access. Patients are waiting. #discoveries, #innovation, #reserchanddevelopment, #biotechnology, #pharmaceuticals, #globalhealth

Feeling energized with this week’s discussions in #Basel! I had the privilege to present on "Incentivising Funding for Women’s Health Innovation: Adopting a Framework from the Orphan Drug Model" at the #WHISEU which we collaborative wrote at Catenion with Dr. Ilkin Nehls and Dr. Pascal Joly. Some quick key takeaways from the talk and following discussions: 🔍 Broadening the Scope of Women's Health: Women's health encompasses more than just diseases unique to females. It's about recognizing that every disease affecting a woman requires tailored approaches. Adopting a personalized medicine model with sex as a crucial factor is pivotal. 💡 Innovation Beyond Pharmaceuticals: Innovation in women's health extends beyond New Biological Entities (NBEs) and New Chemical Entities (NCEs). It involves bridging research gaps, addressing translational challenges, and enhancing regulatory clarity and endpoints. 💰 Pathways to Funding Innovation: Developing a sustainable funding model needs a blend of policy incentives, public funding, and compelling business cases tailored for both governmental and private investors. Engaging with stakeholders like patient organizations, policymakers, and political representatives is key for driving change - check the learnings from the successful model of orphan drug development (happy to discuss further) 🚀 Envisioning a future where women's health R&D thrives requires regulatory incentives and guidelines that break silos for translational research. This could involve measures like mandatory sex-segregated reporting of results, simplified regulatory submissions, expedited pathways for innovation, extended patent life, etc. For more insights, check out our article: https://lnkd.in/dQQmgrVH A huge thank you to Women's Health Innovation Series for the invitation, and to all participants for the enriching discussions over the two days. Special thanks to my amazing colleagues Pascal Joly and Ilkin Nehls from Catenion for the collaborative work everyday. Looking forward to continuing the conversation and addressing some thought-provoking questions (maybe in future posts)! Feel free to reach out for further discussions. #WomensHealth #Innovation #WHISEU #catenion #biopharmaconsulting

Improving #diversity in #clinicaltrials is crucial for ensuring that medical treatments are effective and safe for all populations, as differences in genetic makeup, lifestyle, and environmental factors can significantly impact treatment outcomes. To learn more, check out this infographic! → Clinical trials are essential to assessing safety and efficacy of new therapeutics. → Many trials fail to engage participants representative of the health concern being studied. → The resulting findings are often not generalizable and fail to equitably benefit all groups.
