😭 9 brilliant Chinese cultures going EXTINCT Which ones do you know?👇 China has developed at an astonishing pace- providing immense comfort + convenience for its people. But - in the rush towards modernity, some of the rich heritage has unfortunately been compromised. And it’s such a shame! I remember eating street food by small vendors whose recipes were passed from generation to generation 😍 Now, it’s gotten much more regulated, and in the bigger cities chain stores are taking over. Often lacking that authentic local flavour. Likewise with shiny new residential buildings and shopping malls! As we zip forward into the future, enjoying all the conveniences of modern life… It’s easy to overlook *charming* traditions/customs that are quietly fading away. Beyond the famous 石库门 (Shikumen) architecture in Shanghai or the 胡同 (Hutongs) in Beijing, there are plenty of lesser-known treasures slipping into the shadows. 【Naxi Dongba Script】 💡The Naxi people in Yunnan use a unique pictographic script called Dongba, which is one of the few remaining ones in the world. --> It's used by Dongba priests in their religious ceremonies but is at risk due to the declining number of people who can interpret and write it. 【Traditional Mongolian Yurt Villages】 These portable Mongolian round tents covered with skins/felt are declining as more of the villagers move to permanent houses in urban areas. --> This migration is leading to a loss in traditional practices such as nomadic herding. 【Shadow Puppetry】 A traditional folk art in Shaanxi and Gansu that combines operatic storytelling with cut-out figures made from leather or paper, held between a source of light and a translucent screen. --> This art form is naturally struggling to compete with modern entertainment + digital media! 😳 Some might argue that losing these traditions is an inevitable part of modern progress. ...Does it really have to be that way? There are a few things that can be done! 💪 -Integrate traditional practices into modern education -Promoting cultural tourism -Supporting local artisan communities and promoting these lost arts on social media 👊 (Foreign brands take notes… and reach out if you need support!) Have you ever heard of these disappearing Chinese cultures? PS. Is local culture also fading in your country? Arnold Ma #china #culture #marketing

Shanghai's transformation from 2 to 6,340 square kilometers is astonishing. How did it grow into a super metropolis? 🌆🚀 Shanghai's history as a cradle of ancient civilizations in Jiangnan isn't widely taught. Songze culture dates back over six thousand years! 🏺🇨🇳 Yet, the momentum of progress never stopped. By the Three Kingdoms era, Shanghai was already a bustling market town. Jing'an Temple, a historical landmark, was built then and remains in the city center. 🏯 During Tang Xuanzong's reign, Huating County was established, laying the groundwork for modern Shanghai. The Yuan Dynasty saw Huating, with 130,000 households, upgraded to Songjiang Prefecture, and later, Shanghai County was born. In the Ming Dynasty, Shanghai's southern area became China's cotton textile capital under Songjiang Prefecture. The northern area, part of Suzhou Prefecture, was the most prosperous in the nation. Remarkably, tax revenues from these regions were among the highest in the country. 💹 Even during the turmoil of the Taiping Rebellion, Shanghai's development surged. Industrial growth attracted refugees, transforming it swiftly from a leading agricultural region to an industrial powerhouse. 🏗️🌐 For centuries, there was a saying: “Suzhou, Songjiang, and Jiaxing are the top prefectures in the southeast,” highlighting the region's wealth and importance in Shanghai’s rise. 💼🌏 #Shanghai #China #UrbanDevelopment #History #Innovation #Tech #Entrepreneurship #AI #BigData #InternetOfThings #DigitalMarketing #GrowthStrategy #ShanghaiTransformation #SmartCity #ChineseMarket

Criss Cross across the world. Had the opportunity to visit China for a few days and what a pleasant surprise!! It has a rich and diverse history spanning over 4,000 years. Brought home beautiful silk scarves, always to be reminded of the Silk Road, a network of trade routes, was established during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE) and connected China to the Mediterranean region. It played a significant role in the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures between East and West. Shanghai, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city on China's eastern coast, has a rich history, stunning architecture, and a unique blend of traditional and modern culture, Beautiful, beautiful and really beautiful! In the video one can see the two sides of the river.. 🩵 Shanghai's name comes from the Chinese characters "" (Shàng Hǎi), meaning "Upon the Sea". Shanghai has been a melting pot of cultures since the 19th century, with influences from Europe, America, and Japan. Today, it's home to over 200,000 expats. Also, Shanghai has the most skyscrapers in the world, with over 1,000 buildings above 150 meters (492 feet). The old and the new... really breathtaking and definately a place to visit ..again, again and again.
