"Tensioni" project was created in 2022 from a strong passion and an incessant desire to observe the Lagoon, a fragile and complex system in which fragility is strength. "Tensioni" between water and land, first of all, in the Lagoon they meet and collide, generating an unstable equilibrium and precarious which is at the origin of the foundation of the city. "Tensioni" to which contemporary Venice is subjected. On the one hand, urban and economic policies push for a modern and efficient city, a tourist location for the elites, and a smart city that is managed to pacify the controversial relationship with the environment. On the other hand, the city itself is a territory that instead looks to the Mediterranean and the East, and what it seems like continuing a dialogue – continuously interrupted and hindered – with this territory and its cities. We have played with the power of imagination, creating urban hybrids that attempt to make explicit the visual paroxysm of these tensions.

Past, Present, and Trajectory Today, I hiked the Via Julia Augusta in Alassio, Italy—an ancient Roman road built in 13 BC under Emperor Augustus. Once a vital pathway of the Roman Empire, it connected cities from Placentia in Italy to Arelate in France. It was part of a larger infrastructure network designed to improve communication and transportation across the empire. Walking this path today, with ruins and milestones, is like stepping through time. It's a reminder of how vision, infrastructure, and connection shaped empires. Looking ahead, it’s a reflection on the trajectory and the roads we’re building today that will lead us forward. Just as the Romans constructed infrastructure that unified vast territories and ensured their empire’s longevity, we too are responsible for the paths we create in our lives, businesses, and communities. At 61, I look at each decision, relationship, and initiative like a brick in the road, paving the way for the future. The trajectory we set today will determine where we end up and the legacy we leave behind. Hiking the Via Julia Augusta today reminded me that the roads we walk on were built with intention and purpose centuries ago. Likewise, the roads we build now will guide future generations, shaping their opportunities and defining their journey. The future is ours to design.

Are you in Europe or Latin America? 🇪🇸🇮🇹 What you see today is a continuation of centuries-old civilization. Walking through the streets of Madrid, Spain, it's easy to notice how the last 300, 400, even 500 years have left their mark, yet the essence remains unchanged. 🏘️🚶♂️ These places embrace continuity; zoning regulations are strict, meaning a house built 900 years ago cannot simply be demolished. Instead, it stands as a living monument to history. 🚗✨ In Europe, they preserve the past, not just in museums, but in everyday life. That’s why even today, traffic flows on roads that have witnessed countless generations. It’s a blend of modern living with unbreakable ties to heritage. 🌆🔗 . . . #EuropeanHeritage #TimelessBeauty #HistoricArchitecture #MadridStreets #PreservingHistory #CulturalContinuity #ZoningRegulations #LatinAmerica #OldWorldCharm #HistoricalPreservation #TravelEurope #UrbanHistory #StreetsofMadrid #RAY #RayArchitects

I've just returned from a rejuvenating vacation in Rome. It's not my first visit, but each time I'm there, I'm newly inspired by the ancient city. This awe compels me to reflect on the enduring wisdom of Roman engineering—a legacy that offers lessons even today. Roman Ingenuity at Its Finest: - Aqueducts of Segovia, Spain: These conduits are not just remnants of history; they are active examples of Roman precision and durability, still standing after centuries. - The Pantheon, Rome: Each visit reminds me of its genius; over 1,900 years old and its drainage system still functions, a testament to Rome's superior engineering and timeless materials. - The Pont du Gard, Nîmes, France: This aqueduct bridge impresses with its ability to withstand time and nature, showcasing the Romans' mastery in creating resilient structures. While modern Western countries spend up to 3% of their total annual budget on infrastructure maintenance (and yet not enough considering the status of obsolescence of most infrastructures), the Romans built for millennia. If we adopted their approach to durability and sustainability in construction, imagine the resources we could save and the accidents we could avoid. These funds could enhance education, healthcare, and other vital services, substantially improving our quality of life. 🌍 A Call to Action: Let's draw inspiration from the ancient world to forge a sustainable and efficient future. By learning from the Romans, we could not only conserve resources but also leave a legacy that stands the test of time. How can we integrate ancient wisdom into modern practices? Join the discussion on leveraging the past for future sustainability. #Engineering #Infrastructure #Sustainability #History #RomanEngineering #Innovation #PublicPolicy #UrbanPlanning #CivilEngineering #Rome
