I'm showcasing my latest artwork made from non-recyclable trash this Global Recycling Day. It's made from luggage routing tags, fabric, painted canvas, electrical conduit channels, food wrappers, and more. Today is World Cotton Day, so we wanted to shine a light on the intricate process behind each cotton product, and encourage you to choose sustainable materials. How did we do? 🌱 Have you ever considered the journey that cozy T-shirt took to end up in your hands? 🌍 5️⃣ The last thing it did was get shipped to your address, ready for you to wear. 4️⃣ But before that, it had to be carefully packaged to ensure it arrived in perfect condition. 3️⃣ And before that, its unique design had to be printed on it. 2️⃣ Even before that, it had to be stitched together by skilled workers. 1️⃣ And before that? It spent its days as a Gossypium, more commonly known as cotton, under the hot sun. And before it could enjoy its warmth, it had to actually grow, and then produce the fibers (which can take up to six months) before someone harvested them at just the right time, and spun them into threads 🧵👕 #giftup #cotton #worldcottonday #sustainability #promotionalgifts

Did you know that the equivalent of a truckload of textiles is landfilled or incinerated every second worldwide? And that 80% of all the stuff we own ends up in landfills? Baker Hughes recently hosted a thought-provoking discussion about sustainable fashion with two small businesses in Houston, MendIt®, Inc. and Magpies & Peacocks, along with a fun clothes swap as part of the inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Week. Here are three key actions each of us can take in our daily lives to make a difference: 1️⃣ Extend shelf life of your clothing as much as possible. Mend it as needed, swap, or re-use it in different ways. 2️⃣ Resist the urge to splurge on fast fashion. Spend on few high quality pieces in your wardrobe and get creative with it. But how can fishing nets be transformed into hat visors? This is the choice we've made for our production, thanks to our partnership with Retraze®. ReTraze® collaborates with small businesses, fishermen, and NGOs to collect these discarded nets and give them a new life. The recycling process begins with careful selection, followed by a series of steps: cutting, washing, melting, shredding, and extruding. These nets are then transformed into recycled PE panels. From these panels, precision-cut visors are crafted and incorporated into our caps. This partnership represents a small gesture that, over time, can make a significant difference. By choosing to use recycled materials, we not only reduce waste but also promote a more sustainable production model that aligns with our values. We are proud to be part of this journey, where every cap tells a story of sustainability and innovation. Over on our socials, we have a ‘Wool School’ series where we share facts about wool. This week, we chatted about how wool is one of the most recycled fibres in the world. “Due to its versatility and resilience, wool is one of the most sought-after textiles to recycle and reuse. It can be made into garments, insulation, underfelt, mattresses, bedding, and upholstery.” Wool’s ability to be recycled and repurposed makes it one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly fibres in the world.
