Do you know the meaning behind our business name? We are all about supporting Indigenous perspectives in the classroom for our children and youth, so it is fitting that our name reflects our purpose. Riley is our sons middle name, and Callie is our daughters middle name. Callie is also the name that my great nan used to call my mum, so in essence it is all about family. As an Indigenous business, we are in it for our kids, to make a difference in their world and for future generations. Learn more about our why here: https://lnkd.in/gGPp_wb5

Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter - African proverb In today's world, storytelling holds immense power in shaping public opinion and influencing the masses. The African proverb is a profound statement which highlights the importance of diverse perspectives and the need for underrepresented voices to be heard. Far too often, the narratives that dominate our society are told from the viewpoint of those in positions of power, while the experiences and struggles of the marginalized remain unheard. It is crucial that we actively seek out and amplify the stories of those who have been silenced, ensuring that their truths are not overshadowed by the tales of the privileged. By embracing a multitude of voices and perspectives, we can paint a more comprehensive and accurate picture of the world we live in. It is only through this inclusive approach to storytelling that we can foster empathy, understanding, and positive change. Let us strive to create a platform where the lions can share their stories, and the hunters are no longer the sole authors of our collective narrative. Thoughts?

"The goal of this group is to practice civility, even in disagreement." You might be interested in my present project, a book on the political philosophy of civility, to be published by Palgrave in 2025.
The Hamilton Center’s Lantern Club is a discussion group inspired by a 17th-century society in Rotterdam, where great thinkers like John Locke gathered to explore and debate controversial issues of politics and religion. The goal of this group is to practice civility, even in disagreement. The group commits to practicing open-mindedness, active listening, and thoughtful reflection while avoiding long-winded speeches, emotional reactions, or taking offense at sincere differences of opinion. The group currently takes place at the home of Dr. James Hooks in the evenings around a fire, where students break into small groups to discuss select topics that are relevant to civil discourse in contemporary America. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to Dr. Hooks!

I would like to take a moment to share my "30 for the Future" video. One of the key points I emphasized in the interview was my aspiration to serve as an advocate for those who are unheard, unseen, and overlooked. I sincerely hope that the work accomplished through my organization, Empowering Queens, will have a lasting positive impact on people's lives.
