We are in need of a sustainable food system that benefits the environment, society, and the economy. But how do we do that? On Friday 8 March, the CUES project will organise the CUES in Action Symposium. This event explores CUES’ innovative approaches, unveiling how CUES is shaping a new reality where sustainable eating is the norm. Join us in navigating this pivotal journey towards a sustainable future. During the symposium, Dr Yijing Wang and Dr Freya De Keyzer, Ph.D. De Keyzer of ESHCC will act as moderators. Amongst the organisers involved are also Dr Anne-Marie van Prooijen of ESHCC and Bozhidar Ivanov, PhD of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The CUES project, which stands for Consumers’ Understanding of Eating Sustainably, aims to make big changes by creating better ways of sharing information about sustainability with consumers. This includes things like sustainable labels on food and understanding how different ways of producing, transporting, and consuming food affect society. 🤔 Would you use an eco-label on food products? The @EIT Food Consumer Observatory surveyed nearly 10,000 European consumers to understand the motivations, barriers and questions when it comes to eco-labelling on food products. To have the most positive impact, eco-labelling should be part of a package of interventions, including an increase in the availability of more sustainable choices and public information campaigns. From our research, it’s clear that there is widespread support for an independent, universal, and evidence-based logo for sustainable food products and for the responsibility for validating green claims to be in the hands of an independent party. But consumers need more in the way of information, transparency and trust. Insightful reading! And not surprisingly, EU consumers seek more transparency, trustworthiness and traceability when it comes to sustainability. They call for an independent, universal and evidence based eco-label on food. Sustainability is a widely interpretated term. However, the consumers are actually very clear on the different aspects of importance, they seek in an eco-label. If we want a consumer buy-in, we should listen and adapt. Thank you Klaus G. Grunert for sharing. And EIT Food for making this information available. Let's hope our Fødevarestyrelsen will take the finding into consideration in the coming eco-labelling. #sustainability #eco-label #consumerneeds #ESG
