Access to capital is one of the major barriers facing women entrepreneurs. In fact, 80% of women-owned businesses with credit needs are unserved or underserved. This is equivalent to a $1.7 trillion financing gap. WEConnect International and Moody's Corporation have joined forces to break down those barriers with a proven expert-led training program, the Financing Your Growing Business Boot Camp. Since its inception in 2019, the program has generated millions of dollars of new revenue for women entrepreneurs in emerging markets around the world. In fact, last year, program participants could attribute $1.5M in new funds directly attributable to their boot camp participation. We are now looking for women business owners in 14 emerging markets for the 2024 series, as well as NEW boot camp focused on sustainability. The first sessions kick off in early June! Help us narrow the financing gap and put money into the hands of women business owners. As the Business Development and Marketing Lead at Dorthnoch Ltd, I am aware of the unique challenges that come with being a female entrepreneur. Securing investment to scale up, building business resilience, and balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with the additional responsibilities at home, can be challenging. These challenges require not only strategic thinking but also the ability to navigate a landscape that may not always recognize or support the value women bring to business. The WETP program on Access to Finance has given me a deeper understanding of my business's current growth stage, which has allowed me to identify my weaknesses and broaden my perspective on how to go about scaling up effectively. Another illuminating insight was on why women often fail at fundraising applying. This has made me very conscious about being prepared with the right information and data when planning to leverage funding opportunities. I am now applying this knowledge to seek tailored investments to strengthen our business strategies. I am also actively networking with other women entrepreneurs, drawing on our shared experiences and this collaborative approach not only enhances our business's potential but also contributes to the broader community of female business owners, reinforcing the importance of support and solidarity in overcoming the challenges we face. 🚨SA government x Women entrepreneurs The newly elected South African government has outlined several plans to support women entrepreneurs. These plans include increasing funding and financial support through grants and loans tailored for women-owned businesses. They aim to expand training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of women entrepreneurs. Additionally, they plan to improve access to both local and international markets by creating more opportunities and reducing barriers. Simplifying regulatory processes to make it easier for women to start and run businesses is also a priority. The government intends to bolster mentorship and networking programs to connect women entrepreneurs with experienced mentors and peers. There will be a continued focus on sector-specific support, particularly in high-growth areas like technology and agriculture. Finally, the government plans to ensure that public procurement policies favor women-owned businesses, increasing their participation in government contracts. #ScaleUpWomenSummit

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Barclays' £50 Million Investment in the Women’s Taskforce I'm thrilled to share that Barclays has committed £50 million to support female entrepreneurs through its new Women’s Taskforce initiative. This powerful move aims to remove the barriers women face in accessing funding and business support, with a special focus on increasing representation and fostering growth in women-led businesses across the UK. This is an incredible opportunity, locally thinking for Scottish female entrepreneurs, who will now have greater access to funding, mentoring, and networking resources. The support will help break down the financial and structural obstacles that often prevent women from scaling their businesses, creating more inclusive and sustainable opportunities for growth. Barclays' support on this initiative is designed to inspire confidence, providing the resources needed to elevate women entrepreneurs, not only in the south of England but all across the UK—including in Scotland. By collaborating with local organizations, accelerators, and funding networks, this initiative has the potential to significantly impact the entrepreneurial ecosystem here in Scotland, where women-led startups are poised for success. Best practices for supporting women entrepreneurs development. 👸🏽 #ScaleUpWomenSummit According to Faster Capital and Fairer Economies, the best ways to support the development of women entrepreneurs are to give them access to relevant education and training that is catered to their needs, to specialized financial programs that improve funding availability, to networking opportunities, to mentorship and coaching, to lowering regulatory barriers, to legal protections, to support research and data collection initiatives, to start programs for promotion and recognition, and to engage in advocacy work and policy-shaping initiatives. The aforementioned techniques are designed to tackle the distinct obstacles encountered by female entrepreneurs, enable them to achieve success, and foster their financial autonomy and self-determination.
