👾 Game on! Learn how DataDome stopped a three week credential stuffing attack. ⬇️ For three weeks—from Feb 10 to Mar 3, 2024—a major Asian gaming platform's login API was targeted in a #CredentialStuffing attack. The attack included: 🔵 172,513 IP addresses making requests. 🔵 150 login attempts per IP address. 🔵 25,927,606 overall malicious login attempts. ⚙️ While the attack was heavily distributed with more than 172K IP addresses, the attacker used a static server-side fingerprint. 💪 Thanks to our multi-layered detection approach, the attack was blocked using different independent signal categories. The main signals and detection approaches here were the following: ➡️ Lack of JavaScript execution. ➡️ Server-side fingerprinting inconsistency. ➡️ DataDome session cookie mishandling. ➡️ Behavioral detection. ➡️ Residential proxy detection. 🔗 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ej6yJ9Kj

"The old rule was to create safe, ordinary products and combine them with mass marketing. The new rule: create truly innovative products and build the marketing right into them. " CP+B's Bogusky from Baked-In This is an example of "baking in" a feature that wasn't necessary (you could just ban them), but instead chose to make it a spectacle add a little mischief into the experience that 1) Publicly shames the cheater to all the other players in a harmlessly hilarious manner. 2) Creates a sharable/talk worthy memory for players that can go viral. 3) Creates a "distinction" around something that's usually a banal feature. Well done Valve corporation #gaming #marketing
Creating Strategies, Games, and Mission-Driven Teams that Address Disruptive Trends w/YOU| TENCENT, EA & Activision | Inventor | Investor
Valve achieved the seemingly impossible: turning encounters with hackers and cheaters into moments players actually look forward to. Deadlock's new anti-cheat lets players turn cheaters into frogs for the rest of the game Instead of banning cheaters—essentially encouraging them to "cheat better"—the game embarrasses them by making the game unplayable for them, as well as publicly outing them in-game. This could be more effective than a ban. I hope more games do this.

📢 Game Freak has confirmed it was the victim of a data leak after information appeared online over the weekend. "A statement said 2,606 items containing the names and email addresses of current, former and contract employees were accessed." Highlighting that the integrity of employee data is just as critical as that of customer data. As an organisation, how do you ensure that the data you hold on your employees is safe and secure? https://lnkd.in/eQTXz8bV #penetrationtesting #cybersecurity #GDPR #MDR #cybersecurityawarenessmonth ITPS

Hey guys any Valorant gamers here! https://lnkd.in/e5trzdA6 I came across a cheater on the opponents team followed by a red screen while I was top fragging. I got curious how these cheats work. This video here is pretty cool. You can understand how adversaries work against the anti-cheat kernel drivers, which monitor every single system-call made by any user program. So, they write kernel level cheat drivers, use some third party mappers to bypass the requirement for a driver to run, i.e to get digitally signed by OS manufacturer. Some interesting things about Operating Systems are also told. let's not encourage invasive softwares. #OperatingSystems #Valorant

Recently I was reading about how AI made some cyber attacks more accesible to delincuents. By pure coincidence, this last week a huge data leak from GameFreak seem to approve of that (https://lnkd.in/dEH8wxmB) By reading from different sites, it seems that the first succesful attack was phishing, by which the attackers were able to carry on to attack more dispositives until they reached some valuable data 🤔 Just as systems prevent attacks to software/hardware from happening, I wonder what systems could be developed to reduce the effectiveness of 'human-oriented' attacks such as phishing. 💭 #CyberSecurity #DataLeak

Data breaches are a serious threat to any organization. They can expose confidential information, disrupt operations, and erode user trust. For game developers, the risks are even higher, as sensitive game details, source codes, and future plans can be leaked, causing long-term damage to both reputation and revenue. Recently, Game Freak, the developer behind Pokémon, confirmed a significant data breach that exposed 30 years of internal information. The leak included beta designs, source codes for classic games like Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, and even details on upcoming titles such as Pokémon Ounce and Gaia. The breach also revealed plans for a potential Pokémon MMO and discussions from internal meetings. In response, Game Freak has fortified its security measures and is proactively notifying affected individuals. The company issued a public apology and is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to prevent future incidents. While no direct impact on consumers has been reported, this breach underscores the critical importance of robust cybersecurity protocols in safeguarding both corporate and personal data. . . #gamefreak #databreach #cybersecurity #gamingindustry #pokémon https://lnkd.in/gVEskvHd
