In the Nordic countries, the risk of falsified medicines is real, but only when you buy your medicine from unauthorized and illegal sources. If you buy your medicine from an approved pharmacy, you can be confident that your medicine is authentic. The Nordic NMVOs provide secure, straightforward, and supportive systems for verifying medicines. The system alerts if a falsified medicine should turn up and warns if medicines already dispensed or destroyed are dispensed. The system can also ensure that packs from recalled batches never reach the patient. This results in additional quality control in the medicine handling process. Together we help ensure every individual has confidence in their medicine. The Nordic NMVOs have recently updated our “Nordic Best Practice” on how to do a Recall or Withdrawal through the EMVS, check it out: https://lnkd.in/dUmfaq3V #fightthefakes #StopFakeMeds #FightTheFakesWeek2024

National Check Your Meds Day, observed annually on October 21, encourages consumers to have their prescriptions reviewed by local pharmacists. This event, sponsored by the National Community Pharmacists Association, allows pharmacists to update prescriptions, remove expired ones, and answer questions. The role of pharmacists has evolved from ancient apothecaries to modern medication experts. After World War II, pharmacists transitioned from making remedies to consulting patients directly about medicines. Established in 2017 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this day helps patients understand their medications better, including proper usage and potential alternatives. Key historical points: - 1899: Bayer introduced aspirin - 1951: Prescription vs. over-the-counter drug distinction established - 1988: U.S. created the "Drug Czar" position Observing the day: 1. Have your medications checked by a pharmacist 2. Encourage friends and family to participate 3. Pharmacists can promote the event to increase awareness The day is important for ensuring medication safety, answering questions, and strengthening pharmacist-patient relationships.

Today, we launched a new ad highlighting how PBMs & insurers decide what medicine you get and what you pay at the pharmacy. Middlemen like these take over half of every dollar spent on medicines. What’s more, they are often the same company, giving them even greater control over your medicines. It’s time to take on the middlemen. More: https://lnkd.in/eTCkJft8

In Australia, one of the most common pharmacy ownership structures is a partnership. Theoretically, it is a simple arrangement between pharmacists to own a pharmacy, contribute to running it, and share the risks and profits. But in practice, it is not always that straight forward. As we all know (especially as pharmacists), prevention is better than a cure. So, check out our latest blog post which provides some helpful insights around pharmacy partnership agreements. 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/gsdgZc_U If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Frank Morgante who leads the pharmacy practice at Holman Hodge. #newblog #blogalert #pharmacy #pharmacysupport
