Staying at Home vs. Going Abroad: The Dilemma of Growth and Duty 🌍 Many of us struggle with the question: Should we stay in our home country or pursue opportunities abroad? The outside world often offers more immediate resources and possibilities. But what about our sense of belonging and duty to our homeland and family? 🌱 On the one hand, moving abroad may seem like a logical step for personal growth, career advancement, or even for gaining experiences that we can take home later. But it’s hard to ignore the idea that our country’s true progress comes from within. It was built by people who grew up there. But who will develop our own country if not us? 📚 This reminds me of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist and the idea of following your “personal legend”. Travel may take us far from home, but at what point do our roots planted abroad run too deep to return? We risk becoming like the trees in fertile soil when thriving abroad. But can we release the roots and return them to where they needed the most growth? 🏡 Staying at home can feel like swimming against the current. Spending more time searching for resources and connections requires patience, perseverance and faith in the potential beneath the surface. It is about nurturing a land that at first appears arid but has untapped potential, waiting for the first trees to bear fruit. 🌟 Some recommend using youth and energy to explore the world. Some say to stay away from home and build a house. The truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer. What is clear is that adaptability is important. And every choice determines our environment, our family, and our future. ❤️ No matter where we choose to be, it’s important to remember that home is where we feel the most accepted. However, the environment in which we grow up often determines where our hearts truly lie. #GrowthJourney #HomeAndAbroad #PersonalLegend #CulturalRoots #LifeChoices #GlobalCitizen #FindingHome

🌍 What You Learn After Moving Abroad 🌍 Moving to a new country is an adventure filled with excitement, challenges, and growth. There are some key lessons I've learned since stepping outside of my home country: 1. Adaptability is Everything: From navigating new bureaucracies to understanding social norms, moving abroad teaches you how to adjust and thrive in unfamiliar environments. Flexibility becomes second nature. 2. Independence and Self-Reliance: Being away from your usual support network pushes you to rely on yourself. Whether it’s problem-solving, learning a new language, or simply finding your way in a new city, your sense of independence grows immensely. 3. Global Perspective: Living in another country exposes you to different cultures, traditions, and viewpoints. You learn that there are many ways to live, work, and think—and this broader perspective is invaluable in both personal and professional life. 4. Patience and Resilience: Adjusting to a new culture or lifestyle isn’t always easy. You’ll face setbacks, homesickness, and confusion, but through these experiences, you build resilience and patience, skills that carry over into every aspect of life. 5. Building New Connections: Moving abroad forces you to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people. These relationships, whether with locals or fellow expats, help create a new support system and broaden your global network. 6. Cherishing Your Roots: While you grow and change abroad, you also gain a newfound appreciation for where you came from. Like many, I moved to Sweden as a student and stayed on. This week I completed 4 years of moving abroad and here are 5 things, that we need to speak about more explicitly about moving abroad 👇 These insights are crucial because: 🔥 They prepare you for the emotional challenges you'll face. 🔥 They help you embrace the growth that comes with stepping out of your comfort zone. 🔥 They show you how to navigate loneliness and cultural adjustment with resilience. Here are the key points you should keep in mind: ⭐ Feeling Lost and Finding Yourself Again: Moving abroad might make you question your identity, but it’s also a chance to rediscover who you are. ⭐ Fear of Missing Out and Loneliness: It’s normal to feel isolated at first. Building connections takes time—be patient and open to new friendships. ⭐ Sense of Loss for What You Left Behind: Missing home can be tough, but it’s also an opportunity to create new memories in your new environment. ⭐ The Challenge of Cultural Adjustment: Learning new customs and social norms can be overwhelming, but it will enrich your perspective and life. ⭐ Personal Growth and Resilience: Living abroad pushes you out of your comfort zone, helping you grow stronger and more adaptable. These are the realities of living abroad. If you’re thinking of moving or are already an expat, understanding these challenges will set you up for a smoother transition. I work to help expats & immigrants to not only adjust to a new life but also to thrive. #livingabroad #expatlife #personalgrowth #CulturalAdjustment #newbeginnings #expatsupport #thrivingabroad #ExpatsinSweden #expatmentalhealth #selfdiscovery

Before moving abroad, always remember this: ⚠ No culture is superior to another. No, not even yours. So stop saying: "People here are strange, they're not like us." ⛔ Leave all the stereotypes behind, hidden in some drawer. They will only cause you harm. ❤️ Be humble, always. Don't judge a different culture but try to understand it, accept it, and, if you like, make it yours. Living abroad is not just a matter of traveling, working, being cool and earning good money. Living abroad is about humility, discipline, open-mindedness, but above all, curiosity. Such a life is not for everyone, but only for those who know how to earn it. The Paradox of Living Abroad - Moving abroad is a transformative experience, filled with new adventures. Yet, amidst the thrill of exploring a new country, there's a bittersweet reality that many expatriates face - the feeling of leaving everything and everyone back home. While the physical distance can be measured in miles, the emotional distance often feels far greater. Upon arriving in a new country, there's an unspoken expectation to stay in touch with family and friends back home. However, reality often falls short of this ideal. Despite the relationships built over years, the support and communication from those left behind can dwindle. It's a harsh realisation that the people who once were a significant part of your daily life no longer seem to have the time to check in, unless you make the first move. This lack of reciprocation can lead to profound feelings of loneliness. The once familiar faces and voices become distant memories as you navigate your new life abroad. The anticipation of shared experiences and mutual support fades as you grapple with the reality of one-sided communication. In the beginning, you might find yourself constantly reaching out, eager to share your new experiences and stay connected. Yet, over time, the effort starts to feel draining. The silence on the other end becomes deafening, and the absence of reciprocation stings. It’s not that your friends and family don't care; they simply have their own lives to manage, often forgetting that you, too, need their support. The paradox of living abroad is that while you're physically distant, you crave emotional closeness more than ever... #toronto #movingabroad #mentalhealth #mentalhealtharticle #mentalhealthawareness

2moThe dilemma among all parents in the world is much more important, because they want their children to find their voice and write their own personal legend, but at the same time they want them to be with them, around them and close to them physically. And this is the true meaning of the Family, Identity.
