Under the new Auto Enrolment (AE) system, employees aged 23-60 earning over €20,000 annually will be automatically enrolled into a pension scheme if they don't already contribute to a work or private pension through payroll. Contributions to director and staff pension schemes are an extremely tax-efficient method of extracting funds from a company. They are largely tax-free in the hands of the pension scheme and are tax-deductible for the company.
