The Cocoa Farmer Field School in Katingan has been successfully implemented! 🧑🌾✨ Around 120 farmers from 7 villages in Katingan regency, Indonesia, learned about the basic practices of good cocoa cultivation. This activity aims to teach farmers important skills to help them cultivate cocoa more effectively in their area. With the right knowledge, we can achieve better harvests.🌳🍫 The Cocoa Farmer Field School runs for 4 weeks. This activity has 4 modules, with 1 module being learned each week. Each session is packed with knowledge and practical skills that can be applied right away. The farmers get to learn about cocoa planting techniques, seedling production, fertilization, pest and disease control, and grafting methods for shoots and side branches.🌿 We hope that all of this knowledge and practice will help the farmers achieve prosperity. I have a story for you based on my experience. I’ve monitored farmland (25+ on my own and 10+ with my co-workers). Most farmers focus on four things: - Crops - Products they use for crops - Weather conditions - Pests Therefore, when harvests fail, farmers emphasize those four things. They forget something crucial: The soil. Farmers often plant repeatedly after harvested and take less care of the soil, which can cause it to become exhausted, and problems arise: - Diseases appear - Poor plant growth, reducing quality and leading to lower yield I found a village in Indonesia where farmers harvest only once a year, but their crops are high-quality and have a massive yield. This is because of one thing, they give the soil time to rest and enrich it with natural compost, thus maintaining its health and productivity. This story isn't just about the soil) #journeyoflearning

#Partnership with the private sector is one of the important aspects that must be realized. Connectivity with markets and the #supplychain must be established so that #smallholderfarmers can achieve the targeted improvement in their living standards. #Solidaridad has opened a partnership pathway with PT Pilar Wana Persada (PWP), located in Lamandau District, Central Kalimantan, in preparation for the implementation of the P2P (Pathways to Prosperity) project. PWP is one of the #privatecompanies engaged in #palmoil production. Despite already having 3,200 hectares of nucleus plantation and 2,481 hectares of plasma plantation, PWP still requires additional FFB (fresh fruit bunch) supply from 1,500 local smallholder farmers. PWP welcomed Solidaridad's arrival in Lamandau, especially to guide the implementation of #goodagriculturalpractices referring to aspects of #fruittraceability, data collection, STDB registration, and institutional strengthening. PWP also hopes that this partnership will bring great benefits to the 1,500 smallholder farmers who supply their mill. Solidaridad also took the opportunity to meet with members of the 4 #cooperatives in Lamandau. This opportunity was used to introduce Solidaridad and offer guidance activities. This effort was well received by cooperative members who felt that they had not previously received assistance from any non-governmental organization. As a result, farmer's field school classes have started for 2 #cooperatives, namely Petani Sukses Bersama Cooperative and Bukit Makmur Sejahtera Cooperative. There are 4 classes have already started, with a total of 200 farmers participating, all of whom are ex-plasma farmers.

🦐💹 Shrimp #aquaculture in South Sumatra, Indonesia, is set for a transformative leap through the implementation of #traceability platforms and innovative sustainable financing solutions. Small-scale producers often need help restricting access to capital and credit, which limits their ability to adopt environmentally responsible practices. According to the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia (BPS), in 2019, less than 14.58 million people, or around 90% of Indonesia's fishermen, lived below the poverty line and were economically and politically powerless. This lack of sufficient financial resources hampers their capacity for expansion and efficiency.
