🌿What are Asia's wild ingredients to watch in global aromatherapy markets?🌷 The aromatherapy industry is crucial in promoting sustainable and fair sourcing of wild ingredients and securing their supply chains. Deborah Vorhies, FairWild Foundation CEO, will speak at IFEAT - The International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades on Thursday, 14 November, about some of the wild ingredients trending in the Asian aromatherapy market. She will delve into the critical issues surrounding the sourcing of wild ingredients such as Jatamansi, Sandalwood, and Frankincense from Asia. Jatamansi is already a FairWild-certified ingredient through Himalayan Biotrade, as is Frankincense through Nature Connect India Pvt.Ltd. With market growth rates of between 4.9 and 8.2%, the pressure to sustain the harvesting of these plants contributes to the preservation of their landscapes and the rewilding of Asia. These markets also support economic sustainability in the rural communities that collect these wild ingredients for a living. This year, FairWild’s participation at IFEAT is kindly supported by the UK Government through the #DarwinInitiative. We’ll be making connections for two of our sustainable trade projects—promoting responsible sourcing of ingredients from Nepal’s Himalayas and sustainable Frankincense from Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia—as well as promoting our full range of certified sustainable wild-harvested essential oils and ingredients. Why is Natural Vanilla not well-known among Sri Lankans? 📌 Synthetic Vanilla is much cheaper and more readily available, so many people use it without realizing that there's a natural alternative 📌 Natural Vanilla is expensive to produce because it requires a lot of labor, from pollination to curing. This makes it pricey, so many people opt for cheaper synthetic vanilla instead 📌 A lot of the Natural Vanilla produced in Sri Lanka is exported to other countries where there's higher demand and better prices 📌 Natural Vanilla products might not be widely available in local grocery stores and markets. #NaturalVanilla #SriLankanAgriculture #VanillaAwareness #LocalSpices #SustainableFarming #CeylonVanilla #OrganicVanilla #FarmToTable #FoodEducation #CulinaryCulture #SupportLocalFarmers #VanillaFacts #FlavorInnovation #HealthyEating #GourmetIngredients

Celebrating the Evolution of Arabica Coffee in Thailand: A Journey of Innovation and Sustainability ☕🌱 A comprehensive study, "Research and Development of Arabica Coffee in Thailand," delves into the transformative journey of Arabica coffee from its introduction in 1849 to becoming a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture in Thailand. This narrative isn't just about a crop; it's about national development, innovation, and overcoming environmental challenges. 🌍🌿 Historical Insight and Agricultural Shifts Initially introduced to replace opium poppy cultivation, Arabica coffee has played a critical role in environmental and economic shifts in Northern Thailand. Through initiatives like the Royal Project, it has been cultivated as a sustainable crop that supports local communities and conserves the ecosystem. 🌱🔬 Scientific Advances and Varietal Development The paper highlights significant milestones, such as the development of the Chiang Mai 80 variety, which showcased remarkable disease resistance and adaptability to the local climate. This variety, among others, was crucial in combating leaf rust, a pervasive threat to coffee crops. 🌎☕ Market Impact and Cultural Resurgence In recent years, the growing global appreciation for specialty coffee has echoed through Thailand's northern provinces, where Arabica now thrives. The region's unique microclimates contribute to the distinct flavors of Thai Arabica, making it a sought-after commodity in both local and international markets. 📈🌾 Future Prospects and Continued Research Looking ahead, the paper discusses ongoing efforts to enhance rust resistance and drought tolerance, ensuring the sustainability of coffee cultivation against the backdrop of climate change. It also touches on the strategic role Thailand is poised to play as a regional leader in coffee research and development, driven by both governmental and private sector support. As we reflect on these achievements and aspirations, we at Hillkoff are proud to have been part of this journey since the 1970s. Our commitment to pioneering sustainable coffee cultivation has not only helped shape the industry but also supported the thriving coffee culture that we see today. 🌟👨🌾 #ThaiArabica #CoffeeResearch #SustainableAgriculture #HillkoffLegacy To learn more: Noppakoonwong, U. et al.
