In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court has closed a petition challenging a gender discriminatory provision in the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1973. The court took note of the replacement statute, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, which has removed the offending section. The challenged provision, Section 64, discriminated against women by treating female family members incapable of accepting summons on behalf of a person summoned. This decision marks an important step towards gender equality in Indian law. #SupremeCourtOfIndia #SupremeCourt #HighCourt #Legal #Law #India
