Elder care is relatively a new sector in Nigeria and Africa at large. This is why there is little to no organized institutions that are solely responsible for elder care in Nigeria and other African countries. Elder care is a necessity in every community, nation and the world as a whole. Abuse is a neglectful or intentional act that causes harm and distress, it could be done to anyone and our older persons are not an exemption. Elder Abuse can be refered to as an intentional or neglectful act by trusted persons,caregivers or family that causes harm to the older persons. Elder abuse occurs in various forms such as; physical,psychological, financial, sexual or Neglect. Signs of elder abuse may include but not limited to; Injures, bruises, fear or anxiety towards a family member or caregiver, signs of depression, malnutrition, genital infections or injuries, withdrawal from social activities, and many more. As members of the society, it is our duty and responsibility to keep a close eye on our elder adult and to address any form of adult abuse when we recognize any. We owe to our elderly persons to fight against any form of abuse inflected on them and to create awareness against adult abuse. ................................................. HOME-START FLINTSHIRE is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 11 years of age. Volunteers are recruited, trained and supported to support families offering a unique mix of emotional and practical help. All parents need help at sometime, and parents ask for help from Home-Start for one or more of the following reasons: Feelings of isolation Experiencing effects of ill health and/or disability Difficulties in managing the household budget Struggling with emotional health/depression Difficulties in managing children’s behaviour Bereavement Multiple birth Housing issues Stress associated with conflict in the family Volunteers are carefully matched – linking the skills of each volunteer with the needs of the family. Our volunteers are friendly, approachable and give their spare time to provide encouragement, a listening ear and an extra pair of hands for a few hours once a week. During emergencies, child mortality rates can soar from 2 to 70 times higher than the average(WHO). As humanitarians and health care providers, it is our responsibility to support, protect, and promote best practices regarding Infants and Young Child Feeding #IYCF ‘DO NO HARM’ particularly during crisis and emergency situations. Stop random unregulated formula donations and the risks associated with it. Instead provide skilled support to #lactating and #breastfeeding mothers and promote re-lactation through the national hotline, NGOs, local organisations or from experienced mothers ‘mom to mom support’ rather than providing risky and unsustainable donated formula. #breastfeeding #breastmilk #skilledsupport #emergency #livesavingmeasures

Key Pathways and Stakeholder Alignment. Transitioning from institutional care to family and community-based models is a complex process that requires coordinated efforts across multiple domains. Key pathways include enhancing organizational, programmatic, and adaptive capacity, alongside developing effective fundraising strategies to ensure financial stability. It's essential to design new programs and improve existing ones, ensuring alignment with transition guidelines and child welfare guidelines. Success depends on engaging all stakeholders—Children staff, founders, donors etc—ensuring they have clarity on their roles and the future. The work we do is vital.

There are many stereotypes associated with the elderly persons and aging as a whole. Classifying our elderly persons with these stereotypes is like fitting them inti boxes, thereby limiting their extraordinary abilities. There is a need to have a mental change towards these said "limitations" towards our older persons. Raising Awareness about Elder Line National Helpline 🚨 Elder Line: A National Helpline for Senior Citizens The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E), in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) and participating State/UT Governments, has launched Elder Line – a National Helpline for Senior Citizens (NHSC). This initiative is also supported by Tata Trusts, Vijayavahini Charitable Foundation, and NSE Foundation.
