When it comes to #spatialcomputing, most of us think wearing dedicated devices, as we move toward a new era of lighter glasses and headsets, embodied by the #orion concept just revealed by Meta. But this is interesting to see new other type of interfaces emerging. In that perspective, I'd like to highlight what Distance Technologies is currently proposing as an alternative to headsets. Distance Technologies just raised $11.2M for enterprises glasses-free #mixedreality designed for the automotive, aerospace, and defense markets, showing that money still flows for valuable hardware #immersivetech initiatives like this one. Leveraging #MR and contextual #AI, Distance transforms the entirety of any transparent surface into a glasses- and headset-free window for experiencing the next-generation of mixed reality — all through a computer-generated 3D light field that seamlessly mixes with the real world. Meta has recently revealed the feature of Orion, a device which feels like it may eliminate the need for smartphones in the coming days and at the Connect 2024 event, #MarkZuckerberg unleashed these modern-looking #AR glasses which will enhance the way users view and engage with digital content. Orion smart glasses are unlike older models in the way that one can easily breathe and look around space without feeling uncomfortable. The clear lenses allow for eye contact while protruding very #HighDefinition holograms into one’s field of vision.
