One of the most frequent questions I get from media, investors, and industry folks alike is some version of: "How can FanDuel maintain - or extend - its lead in the U.S. online gambling market?" A big part - maybe the dominant part - of the answer to that question comes down to Amy Howe and her team continuing to do everything they already do at a best-in-class level (e.g., product, brand, operations). My colleague Chris Krafcik had a good thread today covering how critical SGPs have been to FanDuel's moat. But the advantages that propelled FanDuel to its current position can only last so long. So where does it go from here? In this brief (and very ad hoc) doc, I offer my thoughts on the "above and beyond" strategy and tactics FanDuel can deploy both to fight against the erosion of its head start advantages and also to unlock new markets and new demand that can grow TAM even as competitors gain ground on the core OSB and online casino fronts.
