Happy World Population Day! Skretting's purpose is Feeding the Future, and as an essential link in the feed-to-food chain, we must meet the rising food needs of the world in a sustainable manner. In 2023, Skretting contributed to the production of over 26 million portions of seafood meals per day across the globe. However, the world population is set to reach 10 billion, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that to feed this many people, global food production will need to increase by about 60% by 2050! #feedingthefuture #sustainability #aquafeed

𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗣 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵! Have you considered buying 𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡 & 𝙊𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘 food? Local produce reduces the carbon footprint created by shipping foods from other places, by cutting down on air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Local products tend to be fresher and less processed leading to improved nutrition. Organic produce is not sprayed with detrimental chemicals that can negatively affect the environment and your health. Organic farming is also associated with improved water and soil quality by reducing pesticide pollution. This #NoWasteWednesday, practice your commitment to sustainability by exploring local and organic food options. 🔗To find local food near you, visit the directory linked below. #SustainableLiving #BuyLocal #BuyOrganic #ReduceWaste #GREP #GreekRealEstatePartners

It’s inspiring to connect the food system in a beneficial way. Especially when you can replace 1 pound of conventional flour in the food industry and save 3 square feet of farmland. Thank you, Allie Arnell at Upcycled Food Association for writing this article supporting the work of NETZRO, SBC and Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI). #ShopUP #UpcycledFood #Upcycled #spentgrain #sustainablefoodsystems #circularfoodeconomy https://lnkd.in/gWeikjQV

Seeing a lot about meat prices lately in both America and Australia has made me think about the need for alternative food options. This farmer's perspective on vegetable prices is a great reminder that we need to be more mindful about our food choices. It's easy to be lazy, but we have to get organized and start making conscious decisions. Let's work together to find sustainable and affordable food options for all. #foodforthought #sustainability #consciousliving
Certified Organic Fruit + Veg Boxes on Instagram: "Become a rebel and support farmers directly 👊 Family farms have declined by 15% every decade since the 1980’s 😲 You can help stop this trend by buying directly from farmers. We proudly display the names of each farm whose produce we sell online, including 6 local farming families here on the Mid North Coast. (This includes us the Sohip family 🤗

🌍 World Food Day 2024: Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future 🌱 Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Food Day 2024 and reflecting on the theme: "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future." This theme resonates with our mission at Iremide Meadow Farms and through the Green Home Initiative—to ensure everyone has access to nutritious, affordable, and sustainable food. At Iremide Meadow Farms, we are empowering families to grow their own organic vegetables and fruits using sustainable practices such as vertical and sack farming. Through this initiative, we reduce dependency on expensive food markets, encourage self-reliance, and promote healthier living. By teaching communities to cultivate crops like orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and maize, we are fostering food security and ensuring that more people have access to fresh, nutritious food. Our work aligns with the vision of building a future where everyone’s right to food is recognized and fulfilled. On this special day, let us not only celebrate progress but also renew our commitment to sustainable farming practices that nourish people, protect the environment, and secure a better future for all. Together, we can create a world where no one is left behind—one garden at a time. 🌱💧 #WorldFoodDay2024 #RightToFood #SustainableFarming #GreenHomeInitiative #FoodSecurity

What are food miles and why do they matter? Food miles or food kilometers relate to the distance food has to travel from its place of origin to the consumer. This distance can range from home grown herbs, fruit and vegetables which can be harvested just before they are served, retaining as much fresh nutrients as possible to locally unavailable or out of season foods which rely on long and complicated supply chains for transnational and usually refrigerated transport. Local supply also means greater oversight and visibility of what goes into our food, how it's prepared and who is involved in its production to ensure fair and ethical supply. There are well funded activist groups demanding reduction or even elimination of local farming and agriculture. What they either don't understand or don't want us thinking about is that a reduction in ethical and sustainable local production means local reliance and export demand shifts offshore to less sustainable producers and hurts local economies. The best thing we can do is grow as much of our own fresh, organic food and for everything else, shop as locally as possible. The concept of supply chain length doesn't relate only to food. We should be looking to source as many products and services locally as possible. While it may seem like we have endless food choices, the reality is quite different: our agricultural diversity has significantly dwindled. Out of over 50,000 edible plants worldwide, just 15 crops dominate 90% of our food supply. This narrow focus not only threatens biodiversity but also undermines our food security. Monocultural farming practices further exacerbate these issues by depleting soil nutrients and resilience, impacting both the environment and our health. Recent studies have also highlighted the benefits of consuming a variety of plants to boost gut microbiome diversity and overall health. Chefs, it's time to champion biodiversity on menus! By featuring a diverse array of ingredients, we not only support small-scale farmers but also enhance public health with superior nutrition and richer flavours, surpassing modern, homogenous, high-yield crops. Explore our top tips for diversifying your menu beyond commodity crops! ☝️ https://lnkd.in/dnEKxkyg
