12 Research Assistants / PhD Funded Positions at the Centre for Climate Resilience, University of Augsburg in Germany The positions are part-time (50 %) and run for a fixed period of three years. If the prerequisites are met, the salary will be according to the TV-L 13 pay grade. The positions are funded by the University of Augsburg’s “Green Transformation” programme and will be coordinated by the research units listed below. Specific research interest in at least one of the research topics. High-level commitment with the aim of being able to undertake independent academic research in an interdisciplinary environment. Ability and willingness to integrate into a working group and the research network. Five very productive and enriching days at #ECCB2024! I am very happy to have presented the first results of my PhD research at the University of Hamburg. This year, the 7th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB 2024) had several sessions that integrated biodiversity conservation and social issues. Humans are the main drivers of ecosystem change, and yes, we are part of it! My research analyses the effect of socio-economic factors on invasive plant cover in rural Galapagos. Rights of Nature against whom? Obstacles and Problems with the Implementation of the Rights of Nature - Workshop In 2006, a statute passed by Tamaqua Borough in the US state of Pennsylvania became the first legal act to recognize independent rights of an ecosystem. Like those local actors, people around the world are using rights of nature to defend themselves or nature against environmentally harmful projects and other injustices resulting from the overexploitation of planet Earth. Therefore in the first phase of the DFG research project "Nature as a Legal Person" the focus was on social movements, which play an important role in the creation and enforcement of the rights of nature. https://lnkd.in/e4PwBBhM This year's workshop takes a closer look at the counterpart: Who are the actors addressing in their fight for rights of nature? How do they react or counteract? What difficulties do they typically encounter during proceedings? Those perspectives enable a comprehensive view on the global developments regarding the recognition of the new legal person of nature and the tensions and conflicts that arise in the enforcement of nature's rights. The project hopes to gain general insights into the emergence of new non-human legal persons and the significance of attributing independent rights to non-human entities through looking at the questions and having mutual discussions. The struggle for the rights of nature is diverse and rarely conducted without problems and difficulties.
