So...how do I pick them up at 2pm? Summer is on. My work hasn't changed. Last year, we tried 8am to 6pm summer camps - they ended up being great for us as working parents, but a terrible fit for our little one. This year, better fitting camps will end ~2/3pm with some at least 30 minutes away. I am grateful for having this flexibility and choice AND things will be very different in how I work, how to schedule with clients appropriately, etc. Some may have kids home all day. Whether you have a parent or not on your team, summer is a shift for many. Consider asking your teammates questions like: -What does your summer look like? What will be different for you? -What would be helpful for me to know and how can I best support you?(e.g. moving a team meeting or 1:1 time slot)?

SUMMER FUN Summer is just around the corner. No matter how much you work, no matter how important your job is. No matter how much time you think you don’t have, you can make time to do fun stuff with your children this summer. Leave work a little early one day a week so you can go to the pool. When you’re there, focus on being in the pool with your kids, not on socializing with your own friends. Get up early on a Saturday and set up an obstacle course in your backyard or at the nearby park. There are lots of ideas for these online and all you need is a little imagination and some simple materials to create a very cool course. Pack a cooler with waters and get out your stopwatch. Invite a few neighborhood kids to join you and have some competitions. Show your child how to climb a tree or walk on a balance beam. Try a scavenger hunt or a nature walk - be sure to take pencils and drawing paper - and a camera with you. Create artwork from pebbles and leaves. Plant a vegetable garden - I was never very good at this, but you might be able to make it work! Use a shower curtain or a big tarp and make a water slide. Don’t let the opportunities that summer provides get away from you! You’ll only get this summer this one time, spend it with your children and they will treasure the gift of your time and efforts.

TGIF! 🎉 When I was in school, the phrase "TGIF" never really resonated with me. With classes sometimes scheduled on Saturdays and a few weekdays unexpectedly free due to cancellations, my academic life didn’t fit the typical workweek rhythm. Even during busy weekdays, having 3 to 4 classes that ended by 3 PM seemed manageable. But now that I’m working a 9-to-5 job as an intern, I totally get it. The grind of a full workweek has given me a whole new appreciation for Fridays. The relief, the excitement, and yes, the celebration of making it through another productive week are all real! Who else didn’t quite grasp the importance of TGIF until they started working? What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy week? #TGIF #InternLife #WorkLifeBalance #FridayFeeling #CareerJourney #GrowthMindset #Gratitude

Happy first day of Summer! Summertime does not have to be totally about fun in the sun and leaving work early BUT it also doesn't have to be all about work and no play. It is important to celebrate summertime and make adjustments in your schedule to allow for you to enjoy the season. That can also include professional and personal development, staying focused at work, and making progress towards goals. My advice? Add some personal "summer" goals to your list. Stay focused when at work by setting boundaries. When you are out of the office, practice healthy detachment. Need help with how to find the balance this summer? Let's chat!

Today was always my favorite day as a young child, and it may have gotten a fun little dance this morning, but it also brings challenges in balancing work and being a mom. I see the excitement now in my own children's eyes. It is a time when they get to wake up late, have new experiences at different camps, and spend more time at home. 😍 I can't help but feel optimistic that the summer will go smoothly, but I also know that all the shuttling around will knock my normal routine off its tracks. Happy first day of summer! ☀ How do we manage summer in my house? 💡 More than I can count calendar reminders. 💡 Making a plan with my husband at the beginning of each week. 💡 Blocking time in my calendar. 💡 Focusing on efficiency when I sit down to work. The first day of summer ☀ is a beautiful reminder of the joys of family life, even with its inherent challenges. By embracing the excitement and obstacles, working parents can create a summer filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. Keep this in mind today! Happy first day of summer! 😎 How do you manage summer in your house? #FirstDayofSummer #SummerSolstice #Biglaw #WorkingParent The summer is a great time to reflect on your career. It's comical how similar going back to school is to starting a new job, especially when that transition happens near the end of summer. The first-day jitters aren't things only students experience. We've all had to enter new opportunities with an uneasy feeling and humbly navigate unfamiliar surroundings. You have to learn: Who your new boss (or teacher) is... 🧑🏫 What time to start your commute (or when the bus will pick you up)... 🚌 Where your new office (or classroom) is... 🏫 You have to prepare by: Picking out the perfect first-day outfit... 👔 Gathering snacks and photos for your desk (or locker)... 🥨 Making sure you have your favorite pens and sticky notes (or school supplies)... 🖊️ And maybe most importantly: You have to develop your team spirit... 👏 It's fun to reflect on how I felt as a student, remembering being a prideful representative of my school. Experiencing those feelings is even more important to me now as a working professional. I place a lot of importance on loving what I do for work and feeling excited to represent the company I work for, and you should, too! If you're one of the incredible people shaping minds in schools everywhere, I hope you had a great start to the year. 🎉

🌟 It was an AMAZING Day 8 of Session B at Hope Haven's Summer Career Camp! 🌟 👉Our career campers kicked off their morning in the Job Exploration Session with a burst of creativity, making Summer Community Helper Hand Puppets. They picked their favorite community helpers and got busy crafting lifeguards, park rangers, doctors, librarians, and more! The room was buzzing with excitement as they brought their puppets to life, learning about the roles and responsibilities of each helper. 👉As part of their job duties today, they tackled the much-needed but often overlooked skill of laundry tending. They learned the proper way to fold clothes and the importance of keeping their work neat and presentable. It was a hands-on lesson in maintaining professionalism and attention to detail. In Work Readiness, our campers got some great life advice about procrastination from an unexpected source—SpongeBob SquarePants. Through the hilarious episode, they discovered valuable lessons: 🔹Procrastination exists and needs to be managed. 🔹It’s quicker and more satisfying to complete a task than to put it off. 🔹Listening to that little voice urging you to get back to work is crucial. 🔹The longer you delay a task, the more daunting it seems. 🔹Completing tasks brings a great sense of achievement. 👉The day got even more fun and engaging during music therapy with Ms. Emily from Upbeat Music, in partnership with Cathedral Arts Project. Our campers got their rhythm going with their favorite Boomwhackers, creating vibrant and rhythmic tunes that had everyone dancing and laughing. It’s not too late to register your students aged 14-21 with an IEP or 504 Plan for our upcoming sessions. Each session runs for 2 weeks, and a separate Vocational Rehabilitation referral is needed for each one.
