I was THRILLED to hear this news yesterday! Some context if you are unfamiliar with this matter: - Hello Alice is a company with a mission to help small business owners. - They pride themselves in providing equitable access to capital through grants for underrepresented entrepreneurs. - Last year their partnership with Progressive to provide #BlackWomenBusinessOwners with grants was targeted with a lawsuit, claiming that the grant was racially discriminatory. - This week a judge dismissed the case. Now I don't think this is the last we will hear of this case or similar cases, but this is definitely a win to be proud of. After the affirmative action case in the supreme court, many in the corporate space were concerned about continuing with their DEI efforts thinking the actions would open them up to lawsuits. And the answer is, it could! But if you are truly passionate about creating equitable spaces, you have to be willing to put yourself at risk to support those historically disadvantaged communities. Thank you to Hello Alice for what you have done for the small business community and for fighting to keep that right versus backing down to protect yourselves. Furthermore, while your DEI efforts could open you up to a frivolous lawsuit, it is possible to win that fight so this is your reminder to never give up. #SasstriceRandomRamblings #DEI #WOSB #MBE
The court ruled that this lawsuit is now over. Following this decision by the courts, we at Hello Alice are more determined than ever to continue our mission of supporting small business owners. We thank Neal Katyal and Hogan Lovells for fighting alongside us! #ElevateTheAmericanDream Elizabeth Gore, Carolyn Rodz, Kelsey Ruger
