Board Certified General and Critical Care Surgeon

Emphysematous cholecystitis is a severe and potentially life-threatening form of gallbladder inflammation. It occurs when the gallbladder becomes infected with gas-forming bacteria, leading to the production of gas within the gallbladder wall. This condition is more common in individuals with underlying health conditions such as diabetes or compromised immune systems. Symptoms may include severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and surgery to remove the infected gallbladder. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial to prevent complications such as gangrene or rupture of the gallbladder. #generalsurgery #acutecholecystitis #criticalcare
