I have BINGO…but they don't know yet! Shhh, let's keep it our little secret! 🙊😉 Every second week, the MarTech and Orchestration team unite virtually for a little fun and games. Truly a breath of fresh air in our hybrid work routine, working from 3 countries. Casual chit-chat, laughter, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit electrify the virtual room. And speaking of competition, three weeks ago, I decided to spice things up and introduced our latest challenge - the spectacular "Team Biiiiingooooo"! 🎯 And guess what…someone got bingo. 😎 I know, I know, you must be thinking, "Isn't it a bit cheeky, winning your own game?" Well true, that´s why I leave for vacation instead 😉 Like the idea of team bingo? Feel free to steal the bingo board and get going in your team. Place a stick on the ground and put a small rock where the tip of the shadow falls. 2. Wait ten to fifteen minutes and place a second rock at the point where the tip of the shadow has also moved. 3. Draw a line between the two points. This is an east-west line. 4. Ever Been on a “Trip to Abilene” Without Realizing It? Let me tell you a quick story which I am sure gonna give you a deja-vu. A team sits down to discuss the direction for a new feature. No one’s really excited about the proposed approach, but they assume the others are, so everyone nods in agreement. Months later, the project is behind, the feature is lackluster, and—surprise!—nobody actually liked the plan from the start! 🤯 This is the Abilene Paradox in action. It’s when a group makes a decision that no one truly supports because each person believes it’s what everyone else wants!!! The paradox was coined by Jerry Harvey in 1974, based on his story of a family road trip to Abilene that no one wanted but everyone agreed to. In the workplace, this happens more often than we think, leading to missed opportunities, wasted resources, and unproductive outcomes. How to avoid it? - Encourage honest conversations - Don’t mistake silence for agreement - Create a safe space for dissent The best decisions come when teams feel free to share their real thoughts. Even though we mostly work remotely, we get together twice a year to get hyper-aligned. We had the privilege of getting together in Utah.
