A new community-driven movement, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign, is inspiring individuals across the United States to take action for a cleaner and healthier planet, starting in their own neighborhoods. Co-created by Eva Almeida, Audrey Star, SK Cummings, and Sk Almeida, the initiative emphasizes that individual responsibility plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment. 'If we want to save our planet, we need to start with our cities. Every effort counts,' explained Audrey Star, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and a passionate advocate for sustainability. Through volunteer clean-up events, educational workshops, and a robust social media presence, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign encourages citizens to unite and preserve the beauty and well-being of their local surroundings. THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE Strength in numbers. During a dinner conversation, friends Butch Whitfield, a realtor at Harry Norman Realtors; Liz Lapidus, founder of Liz Lapidus Strategic Communications; and Johanna Ellis-Reisinger, former owner of Atlanta Classic Cars began discussing their favorite nonprofits and how to enhance their impact. “Our goal was to develop a shared vision to guide the region’s conservation efforts,” says Whitfield. The result was Root Local that began with polling 250 environmental groups to test their interest. “We got responses from all the six sectors we identified: food systems, air and water quality management, canopy and land management, green buildings and practices, sustainable fashion and products, and travel and transportation,” says Whitfield. Using those replies, they developed a Network Map, a Collective Impact Plan and The Pollinator Network where online community members and organizations can come together to share ideas and learn how to become better stewards of the environment. “Interested citizens can register online and choose the sector that interests them most, whether its green buildings or sustainable fashion,” Whitfield says. This past weekend one of our key suppliers posted this event they took part in upping their game in our minds as the truly sustainable brand that we love to have in our stock as a premier brand. The snow was still falling in a swirl in Calgary yesterday and today the sun is bright and clear in our skies. For Canada, this time of year means, crazy weather, new growth, the grass gets green, tulips pop, and river cleanups! Community spring clean-up events are fantastic opportunities for neighbours to come together and improve the appearance and livability of their neighbourhoods. They promote a sense of civic pride and unity while making tangible improvements to the local environment. Spring clean-ups also serve as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and encourage individuals to take responsibility for keeping their communities clean and beautiful. The outfit of the day can look like this: thick soled boots, long pants, a long sleeve shirt, lots of garbage bags, ball caps and community spirit. There's always a group to join, a corporate event you can start within your company that can lead to your band of clean up crews.
