🚀 Innovative Hydrogen Storage Solutions for a Sustainable Future 🌍 Thrilled to share the results of my recent project at Politecnico di Milano, where I explored cutting-edge hydrogen storage technologies to tackle the global energy transition. Alongside my talented groupmates Alessio Meneghin, Luca Vacchini, and mona tarakomi, we conducted a comprehensive study of various hydrogen storage methods, including compressed, liquid, and material-based solutions. Our work also involved performing a detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental and economic impacts of these storage options. The key takeaway? Hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, holds immense potential as a clean and renewable energy source. Current energy production depends on the use of fossil fuels which account for more than 80% of global production. This type of energy creates the so-called greenhouse gases, which overheat the planet and cause the dreaded climate change. ✅ In response to this problem, the European Commission (and the global climate contract) suggest a reduction of >80% in CO2 emissions by 2050, compared to levels at the beginning of the 21st century. To this end, alternatives are proposed to avoid the use of new CO2-free energy systems, through radical technical solutions and investments in infrastructure. 🌟 Proud Moment for WtEnergy! 🌟 We are thrilled to share that WtEnergy has been featured in La Vanguardia with an article published on Saturday, 6th April 2024, showcasing our groundbreaking achievement in the field of clean energy. The article highlights the success of the #HYIELD consortium, led by WtEnergy Advanced Solutions in receiving the largest grant from Horizon Europe to transform biomass into green hydrogen. This milestone is not only significant for technological innovation in Spain and Catalonia but also underscores the leadership of Spanish and Catalan technologies in pioneering research. As the technological leader of the consortium, WtEnergy has secured a substantial grant of €4 million and plays a pivotal role in the project, serving as the primary investor in research and development. Our technology will form the basis of the HYIELD project, which aims to produce green hydrogen from #biowaste. This achievement is a testament to the technological prowess of Spain and Catalonia, with the European Commission recognizing the predominantly Spanish (and Catalan) technological foundation of the project. The HYIELD project holds immense potential, with projections indicating an annual production of 72,000 tons of H2, treatment of 1.2 Mt of waste per year, and a substantial reduction in annual CO2 emissions. Exciting news ahead! Bruno Mottet and Lyderic Bocquet and their team have been nominated for the 2024 European Inventor Award (EIA) in the Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) category, hosted by the European Patent Office (EPO). This award recognises their efforts in transforming the energy sector by harnessing osmosis to produce cost-effective and eco-friendly electricity using their ionic nano osmotic diffusion (INOD). The French team's company, Sweetch Energy, is constructing France's first osmotic power plant in collaboration with CNR (Compagnie Nationale du Rhône). INOD technology harnesses the energy generated at the meeting point of seawater and river water. Ions flow from the high salt concentration of seawater to the low concentration in river water through a bio-sourced membrane, generating an electric current from the charge difference and offering a clean and reliable energy source unaffected by weather conditions. With the potential to significantly contribute to the global renewable electricity share, osmotic energy could play a vital role in decarbonising the energy sector. INOD technology holds the promise of reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and helping meet the global electricity demand, offering a sustainable solution for the future. The University of Wyoming has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to lead a fourth carbon capture and storage project. This project will be led specifically by the University’s School of Energy Resources (SER) and the project will be focused on Wyoming. The aim of this project is to conduct a storage complex feasibility study with the focus being placed on the viability of creating a saline carbon dioxide storage hub, designed specifically for current and future companies to use within a particular area.
