To mark the start of #DementiaActionWeek Alzheimer's Society have launched new evidence that shows more starkly than ever the immense scale of dementia's impact- on individuals, families, the NHS and Social Care, and the economy This is important piece of work, led by Ben Richardson CF , shows the huge burden of care is provided by carers and families with 63% costs of dementia being self-funded. A report on the cost of Dementia in the UK was published earlier this week. As seen on the document, the initial priority for addressing dementia is to “improve early and accurate diagnosis”. The financial burden of dementia in the UK is substantial and projected to rise further. To alleviate costs and enhance the quality of life for those affected by dementia, solutions need to be developed. An exemplary early detection tool is Mantis' hyperspectral imaging camera. This non-invasive technology could empower doctors globally to identify biomarkers with a single image, indicating a patient's predisposition to dementia. While still under development, this technology holds the potential to enhance early detection across various diseases, thereby improving the quality of life for millions worldwide.
