Happy to share our new work on "Reactivity of #Cyanobacteria Metabolites with #Ozone: Multicompound Competition Kinetics" by Valentin Rougé and Urs von Gunten at Eawag. We developed a new method to determine reaction rates with ozone simultaneously for a diverse mixture of compounds by employing a suite of reference compounds for competition kinetics. The results are O3 krxn for 31 metabolites, including #microcystins, #anabeanopeptin, #cyanopeptolins and others. https://lnkd.in/daaJqiem

The industrial process of starch hydrolysis first appeared in 1811 when German scientist KIRCHOFF discovered that it was possible to give a sweetened character to starch by heating with water and sulphuric acid. The test is used to identify bacteria that can hydrolyze starch ( amylose & amylopectin) using the enzyme a - amylase & oligo 1,6- glucosidase. These enzymes break starch molecules into smaller glucose subunits which can then enter directly into the glycolytic pathway. In order to interpret the results of the starch hydrolysis test, iodine must be added to agar. The iodine reacts with starch to form a dark brown colour. Thus hydrolysis of starch will create a clear zone around bacterial growth Aakansha Gawas Ajinkya Ruke
