🌳 🪵 As part of the W.A.V.E. project, the Luxembourg Wood Cluster, managed by Luxinnovation GIE, organised an expert workshop on innovation approaches on 5 November in Leudelange. The workshop was organised in partnership with the project's Belgian and German consortium. 🌳 🪵 This expert workshop focused on innovations in the sustainable construction sector, with a presentation of two outstanding projects showing the specificities of using wood-steel beams and wood-concrete composite beams in static timber construction. The workshop was followed by a technical visit to the ALLEGRA and WOODEN projects. 🌳 🪵 The 60 experts present were able to discuss and exchange views on the advantages and challenges of systemic construction, focusing on the technological and planning aspects of wood composite construction, as well as the differences in regulations in each of the territories and the obstacles that this still creates to greater use of wood. 🌳 🪵 We still need to make further progress in order to take a step back from the experiments that have been carried out and learn from them in favour of wood materials. Ligne Bois,DLG-AVG Bau, IZES gGmbH, Société Royale Forestière de Belgique and FILIERE BOIS WALLONIE also took part in the discussions. 👉 Well done to Luxinnovation GIE for this excellent organisation. 👏

More coffee; move the legs; stay focussed Scott! In the future we will no longer ask “why wood?” but rather, “Why isn’t the building made of wood?” Weleda AG’s Cradle Campus in Schwäbisch Gmünd exemplifies a global shift in sustainable construction, combining extensive use of wood and innovative materials like rammed earth, showcased in Germany’s largest contiguous rammed earth structure. This philosophy closely aligns with British Columbia’s Mass Timber Action Plan, which starts to move us beyond “Why wood?” to embrace wood as the standard for construction. By highlighting the structural, environmental, and economic benefits of mass timber, BC is positioning itself as a global leader in sustainable design. Projects like the Weleda Cradle Campus, presented this afternoon at Forum Holzbau International by Bernhard Tritschler of Holzbau Amann GmbH and Nico Santuario of Michelgroup demonstrate the potential for renewable resources to redefine the built environment while inspiring a worldwide transition to sustainable construction. Made possible with the help of a real-time translation device to fully take in the lecture. #WhyNotWood #RammedEarthRevolution #BuildingWithNature #WoodFirstDesign #SustainabilityStandard #RenewableArchitecture #FutureOfConstruction #NaturalInnovation

A European first! 🥇 Yesterday, at the SIBCA - Salon de l'Immobilier Bas Carbone in Paris, our real estate project ROOTS received the Low Carbon Building Initiative (LCBI) certification at the Excellence level, the highest low-carbon performance rating at the design stage 📜 For Arnaud Regout, who received our diploma: “This success is based on the skills of our teams, who are passionate and determined to drive positive and sustainable change.” 💬 Here is an example of a performance indicator that helped us earn this brilliant distinction: by rationalizing the materials used and systematically choosing the lowest carbon option, we save in construction the equivalent of nearly 35 years of carbon emissions required for the ROOTS’ energy operations! 📉🌳 Thanks to Energie et Environnement S.A. for their advice and to Bureau Veritas Group for the validation 🤝 The CityWave project by developer Generali Real Estate in Milan was also certified yesterday. Congratulations to them for their commitment! 👏🏻 Located in the heart of Belval, ROOTS is a mixed-use complex of over 20,000 m², which will include around one hundred apartments, offices, and commercial spaces. ROOTS is a co-development by BPI Real Estate Luxembourg with Unibra Real Estate, architecture is designed by ArtBuild Architects office. Levelling works are underway 🚧 To read full press release find the link in the comments 👇 #LCBI #lowcarboninitiative #decarbonisingrealestate #sustainablerealestate #changingforgood

💡 “All Swisspacer spacer bars come with an 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗘𝗣𝗗) containing all the information needed for a sustainable building assessment," explains Camille Trachet, Sales Manager at Sprimoglass. 🌿 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are essential for driving sustainability in construction. They provide transparent, reliable data on the environmental impact of building materials, helping architects and builders make informed decisions for their projects. Having transparent data on our carbon footprint was a key factor in awarding the contract for the refurbishment of Liège's "Cité Administrative." This ambitious project aimed to transform the building into a 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻-𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, with contributions from Sprimoglass, the architectural firms Canevas and Baumans-Deffet, GROVEN+ (fr) and Swisspacer. Congratulations Gothenburg – receives prestigious award for timber construction! 🌍🌿 Last week, Gothenburg received the prestigious award as Timber City of the Year (Årets trästad), a testament to the city’s strong commitment to sustainable and climate-neutral construction. 🌱 The jury's citation mentions several buildings in Gothenburg that impress both nationally and internationally, such as Nodi, Habitat 7, Kaj 16, and World of Volvo. At the same time, the City of Gothenburg is pushing for more sustainable and circular construction – with more reused materials! Through Gothenburg’s platform for climate-neutral construction, the city collaborates with private and public actors to reduce the construction industry’s climate impact. One example is the Initiative for Reuse and Circular Construction, which brings together property owners to create a truly circular construction industry in the region. ♻️ Within the Living Lab Climate-Neutral Construction project, our partners are running four exciting pilot projects paving the way for a climate-neutral construction sector through the use of reused materials and timber. The Colombian city of Medellín is pioneering circularity within its construction sector with a groundbreaking circular construction policy. By developing a Public Policy on Sustainable Circular Construction, the city of Medellín is reimagining how we build for a more sustainable future. Circular construction goes beyond traditional practices and moves away from the linear "take-make-dispose" model of construction, in favor of: 🔵 Extending the lifespan of building materials 🔵 Minimizing construction waste through practices like prefabrication and modular design 🔵 Designing buildings for adaptability to future needs 🔵 Lowering energy consumption throughout a building's life cycle Interested to learn more about circular construction's groundbreaking principles, strategies, and technologies in Colombia? ➡ Read the Paper Here: https://lnkd.in/eqrkhz8Y

“Industry wide frameworks” 🤝 “Sharing knowledge and experiences” 🧠 “Better relationships with our supply chain partners” 🌱 “Expanded material databases and marketplaces” 🏗️ Just a few of the ideas shared this morning in response to Steve Gilchrist’s question: what do we need to do in 2024 to push the material reuse agenda forward? It was a pleasure to host a circular materials roundtable at our London Studio, along with Willmott Dixon and FORE Partnership, followed by a tour of FORE's development, TBC. London. We took a deep dive into the successes, setbacks, challenges and opportunities around material reuse, after Gareth Atkinson showcased the 318 Oxford Street and TBC. London projects which have been at the heart of a deal that saw 20 tonnes of steel reused, brokered on the back of a bike. With rising temperatures and countries worldwide overshooting their carbon targets, reducing the embodied carbon of our structures is more important than ever. Thanks to all who joined us!
