The first Vinitaly Official USA event is taking place in Chicago on October 20-21 with a focus on promoting and supporting the Italian wine industry on an international scale. This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between various institutions and trade associations, underscoring the importance of unity in promoting Italian wine. Maurizio Danese, the President of Veronafiere, highlighted the collaboration of key governmental and industry bodies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the ITA Trade Agency. Additionally, prominent Italian trade associations like Unione Italiana Vini, Federvini, Coldiretti, and Confagricoltura have played a critical role. This partnership demonstrates a “win-win” approach, where public and private sectors work together to create meaningful support for Italian companies in the competitive global wine market. This event represents a concerted effort to promote Made in Italy products, leveraging high-profile international platforms to boost the visibility and reputation of Italian wines. The business story behind Port wine is almost as good as drinking it🍇🚢 I've just returned from a wonderful family holiday in Porto. One of the highlights was learning about how port wine rose to global fame and shaped the city into a key player in international trade. The story of port wine began in the Douro Valley, where the unique climate and soil created the perfect conditions for producing full-bodied red wines. But it was in the 17th century when port wine really took off, thanks to a clever tweak by winemakers—adding brandy to the barrels to preserve the wine during long sea journeys to England. This resulted in a richer, sweeter wine that English traders couldn’t get enough of. The Methuen Treaty of 1703 was another big stepping stone as it granted Portuguese wines lower duties compared to French competitors, making port wine even more desirable in Britain. Demand skyrocketed, and English merchants flocked to Porto, setting up the iconic wine lodges that still bear their names today. It’s a story of vision and adaptability—Porto’s merchants leveraged changing tastes, political alliances, and strategic maritime routes to turn a regional product into a world-renowned brand. And today, those same family-run cellars still carry forward this legacy, preserving the traditions that made port wine an icon. The business lessons are just as applicable today. 🔜 Business Trip to Italy Mirabilia #Food & #Drink The collaboration between Assocamerestero and the Italian Chambers of Commerce originated Mirabilia Network - Food & Drink, an ongoing project since 2016 aimed at promoting the food and wine heritage of the Italian Mediterranean diet, associating it with the promotion of certain areas of the Peninsula, which host #UNESCO heritage sites. Mirabilia Food & Drink, therefore, is an initiative that allows both Italian producers in the agri-food and wine sectors and international importers interested in quality Made in Italy, to meet and start commercial collaborations. The initiative consists of two different parts: 1️⃣ individual B2B meetings 2️⃣ educational tours of the area. 📌 This year, Mirabilia Food & Drink will take place from 13 to 17 October 2024, in #Perugia. The educational tours, therefore, will take place in #Umbria and the local producers involved will represent the excellence of the Region, showcasing local products such as wine, beer, spirits, coffee, oil, pasta, rice, cheese, truffles, cold cuts, legumes, sauces, bread, and desserts. Usually, it refers to a locality, city, country, or region where the product has been collected, transformed, or manufactured. They both protect the product name from misuse or imitation. 💯 🌏 The names of certain beverages, such as Tequila, Champagne, or Pisco are typical examples of these specialized brands, which are recognized worldwide for their particular characteristics. 🇦🇷 In Argentina, we can mention YERBA MATE, SALAME DE TANDIL, and CHIVITO CRIOLLO DEL NORTE NEUQUINO as denominations of origin. 🧉😊🔖😋
