The Portuguese are welcoming, they like to talk to foreigners, to help in every way possible and also to share a little of their culture. Showing interest in local culture, customs and traditions will facilitate your integration into the country and will certainly help make you feel at home. The Portuguese are very proud of their gastronomy, they love to eat and talk about food all the time, so this is part of their culture that is very much alive in all parts of the country and can be a great starting point for you. The people are usually very friendly and the atmosphere in most places is relaxed, lively and relaxed. However, this sometimes means that timelines are not followed very strictly. Tokyo Restaurant Creates Stir with Tourist Pricing A new seafood buffet restaurant in Tokyo’s bustling Shibuya district is raising eyebrows for its discriminatory pricing policy. Tamatebako, located near the popular Shibuya scramble crossing, reportedly charges foreign tourists more than Japanese locals for their all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet. This practice is uncommon in Japan, where businesses typically offer the same prices to all customers. Tamatebako’s goal according to reports, is to balance capitalising on the tourist boom with keeping prices accessible for local residents. However, the method has sparked criticism, with some calling it unfair and tarnishing Japan’s reputation for hospitality. Fáilte Ireland report: Food and beverage sector worst hit this summer with 68% of such businesses seeing fewer customers compared to 2023, while 84% say profitability is down Today's report showing a disastrous summer for hospitality businesses comes as no surprise to restaurants, pubs and cafés on the ground in tourist-dependent areas. These businesses are vital to local communities and need to be supported in #Budget2025 through the reinstatement of the 9% VAT rate on food - the industry's single, unified ask. Otherwise, the sector's future viability will remain at serious risk. https://lnkd.in/exuSBDpd

There are twenty regions. However, visitors associate traditions, food, and festivals with only three/five of them. What about all the others? From the borders in the Alps to the islands lost in the Mediterranean Sea, do we not have anything to tell? Regional cuisine is the "way" in Italy, so where are the regions? Who knows them? And who knows how to connect one area with local delicacies and relevant wines? Making excellent products is not enough, and it is not anymore. Another point is that these travelers mainly organize through their contacts' networks and do not count on organizations. Does this sound familiar to you?

Excellent article by scott wright. Some supplementary thoughts below We also need a Scottish Government ( of any persuasion) - who doesn’t just say they are pro hospitality, they actually do something tangible to demonstrate this. To the best of my knowledge, *direct & indirect taxes are significant lower in most of mainland Europe. * those that have LEZ ( not many) worked in tandem with the affected local businesses BEFORE it became policy * Licensing/permit laws aren’t pro venue. As an example, it’s absolutely ludicrous that a music city like Glasgow has a general 11pm curfew ( earlier in places for outside gigs) in live music venues. I went to see Springsteen in Milan recently. He came on at 9pm finished at midnight. On same tour , he came on in Edinburgh before 7pm. * on above note, it would of course be crazy to extend licensing laws to later when there is no actual way to get home on public transport post 11pm ( earlier on a Sunday) * Lastly. It’s not SGs fault we are not in EU. However, the ripples from this happening are still rolling through hospitality ( esp cost of goods and availability of good chefs, GMs etc). SG either don’t realise this, or do realise it but don’t care enough to intervene positively. ( but did intervene to try and put DRS into Scotland). #context #scotland #hospitality

☕️Your morning coffee read ☕️ Does Scotland need to get better at promoting its incredible food and drink offering, on the ground? A must read by scott wright in today’s The Herald Scotland ‘However, when it comes to promoting our food and drink on the ground in Scotland, there is arguably much less obvious messaging about local goods in our restaurants and bars. Sure, there are scores of high-quality outlets and chefs that do champion Scottish produce on their menus, but it is far less widespread than in the teeming streets of Porto and Lisbon, where there are far fewer restaurant chains and the promotion of the local dishes is very much the order of the day, no matter the size of the business.’ https://lnkd.in/e-UC4ZwU #FoodTourism #ScottishTourism #ScotlandFoodAndDrink #FoodTourismStrategy #FoodTourismActionPlan
