Earth Day has now become a global moment of reverence for our planet. Just like Earth Day, at Ecobat, our commitment to sustainability started small - with the simple act of recycling batteries. Today, we've expanded our horizons, harnessing the power of innovative technology to drive forward a green future. But sustainability isn't confined to a single day - it's our daily mission. It's in every battery we recycle, every sustainable energy solution we pioneer, and in every decision we make. So this Earth Day, let's not just celebrate the past and the progress we’ve made. The scale of global environmental challenges can often feel overwhelming, but seeing the powerful impact of combining technological innovation with systemic change fills me with hope. 🌍✨ Organizations like The Ocean Cleanup and Climeworks are incredible examples of what’s possible when bold ideas meet decisive action. They are tackling urgent global issues—removing plastic pollution from our oceans and capturing carbon from our atmosphere—showing us that human ingenuity and collective determination can truly restore the balance of our planet. What I find most inspiring is how these efforts highlight that with a clear vision for the future and the will to act, even the most ambitious ideas can become real, tangible solutions. 🌱 As we enter the final weeks of 2024, let’s commit to driving innovation and systemic change—by supporting transformative solutions, embracing sustainability, and raising awareness through effective communication. By sharing ideas, engaging in conversations, and spreading the message, we can create a ripple effect that inspires collective action. Let’s make 2025 a year of meaningful impact, where our efforts for a cleaner, healthier world are amplified by the power of communication and awareness. 🌱🌍

Even from the comfort of Sweden, it was exciting and rewarding to follow and support our communication at Climate Week New York. Listen in below to hear our CEO, Jesper Brodin, speak with the New York Times and Patagonia on how the consumer industry can decarbonize value chains and enhance product circularity. It's good business to be a good business! Beyond knowledge sharing, Climate Week is also a key time for delivering key policy asks to the public sector. By advocating for systemic change, brands like IKEA can make it easier for all in society to join the energy transformation - widening the scope of our positive impact. To enable the transformation across society, Ingka Group welcomes the following actions from governments:  ✔️ Increase greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with the 1.5°C target to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest.  ✔️ Set short and long-term policies within their NDCs in line with the 1.5°C target to finance and accelerate the transition to renewable energy, circular economy, as well as sustainable transport, food systems, reducing food waste, agriculture, and forestry.  ✔️ Accelerate the renewable energy transition and phase out fossil fuels that still account for most of the energy demand. Everyone knows communicating effectively all depends upon tailoring the message for your audience(s). I *thought* I was pretty aware of the different ways in which sustainability communications need to be tailored for maximum impact and change, after working with OSO.earth… ..but oh boy, there’s so much more we all could be thinking about 😬 → We need to make the ‘why + how’ of sustainability, accessible to all - to put it as simply as possible. → We need to fully grasp the specific barriers different communities face, whether it's fear, disempowerment, disbelief, or a lack of education (to name a few). → We need to be smart, relevant and unexpected to cut through and encourage action when it comes to change.
