At the beginning of this year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new model to advance integration in behavioral health (IBH) services. These initiatives, intended to improve quality of care, access and outcomes for people with mental health conditions and substance use disorder, align with the 2023–2026 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) strategic plan for behavioral health care. Check out our fact sheet for details about both strategic models.

Medicaid is the single largest payer of behavioral health services in the United States, spending more than $52 billion annually on behavioral health services. Almost one in three adult enrollees (29 percent) have a mental illness, and about one in five (21 percent) have a substance use disorder. And yet, there is a dire shortage of providers in Medicaid - only 1/3 of providers take Medicaid/Medicare. Read the OIG report here: https://lnkd.in/g-tMhjWy

A new demonstration model from the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is hoping to improve mental health for adults who deal with substance abuse disorders, accomplished by growing behavioral health provider capacity, one that mixes in physical health care within their practice and their services. Integrating a “no wrong door” approach means it doesn’t matter how patients enter the system, they have access to all health programs. This model will allow CMS to support behavioral health practices integrating care that will help meet physical and behavioral health and assist with health-related social needs. The CMS model is a lot like the mission of TPN Health - Improving patient outcomes and based on the principles of trust and integrity. Hey, State of Florida, there is another way. Struggling to provide 24/7 coverage for citizens in a mental health crisis and meeting the needs of a growing population? Maybe Avel eCare can help? https://lnkd.in/g4hUgWdR "The $715 million package is aimed at enhancing the health care workforce, and expanding mental health crisis response teams." A recently published study proves that Avel's co-response system likely averts unnecessary in-voluntary committals through "on scene" and in "real time" assessments via telemedicine. https://lnkd.in/gHeTK2as Florida Legislature Florida Supreme Court Florida Office of the Attorney General STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH Florida Behavioral Health Association Florida Sheriffs Association Florida Health Care Association Florida Association of Counties Florida League of Cities

Too little, too late, at high cost, for little change in outcomes - the US health care workforce way Basic health access in the US is 400 billion short of sufficient for the 40% of the population in 2621 counties with half enough primary care, mental health, women's health, basic surgical and geriatrics services and workforce. The build up to 400 billion would take a decade and then another 20 class years for sufficient workforce. The annual increase to keep pace would need to go up by 10% a year unless the administrative, regulatory, and micromanagement burdens were cut in half. Contrast with what is needed and what gets big press - small amounts that are even smaller when covering many areas and multiple years. In September, HRSA awarded $240 million to expand hashtag #mental health & substance use disorder services, $100 million to strengthen the health workforce and nearly $75 million to support health care in hashtag #rural areas, and also presented @NASHPhealth’s Conference. http://ms.spr.ly/6048m7BH8

63% of seniors with mental health issues don't get proper treatment. That's why we built Vitalic - to revolutionize behavioral health for our aging population. I'm thrilled to announce the launch of Vitalic Health, where we're transforming mental healthcare delivery for older adults. Working alongside my incredible co-founders Ben Gardner and Daniel Tan, we've built a platform that addresses one of healthcare's most pressing challenges. The reality is stark: 25% of adults over 65 struggle with mental health conditions, yet the majority suffer in silence. When behavioral health goes untreated, it cascades into worse health outcomes and skyrocketing costs - over $63B in unnecessary healthcare spending. At Vitalic, we're changing this through: -Specialized geriatric behavioral health expertise, led by top psychiatrists and therapists -AI-powered engagement that proactively connects seniors to care -An older adult-focused digital experience that removes barriers to access -Team-based care coordination that treats the whole person We're launching with $4M in seed funding from Redesign Health and a transformative partnership with VNS Health, one of the nation's largest home and community-based healthcare organizations. This is just the beginning of our journey to ensure every senior has access to the mental healthcare they deserve. The need is immense, but so is our commitment to addressing it. I am Grateful to everyone who has supported us in reaching this milestone. According to FAIR Health and Axios, mental health diagnoses among Seniors are up 57% since 2019. https://lnkd.in/gDPnx-u3 Whether this rise is due to increased pathology, or less resistance to seeking care, the bottom line is clear – Seniors are in need of #behavioralhealth support. And in an already-taxed behavioral health care system, Supportiv has been providing an alternative #access route to the over-65 demographic: online peer support. While one might think stigma keeps Seniors from engaging with mental health services, Supportiv has seen the opposite – that Seniors in this day and age are both willing to open up about emotional struggles, and able to do so even via nontraditional channels like online peer support chats. Individuals on #Medicare have surprisingly embraced this #nontraditional and #tech-enabled modality, and we at Supportiv are excited to expand services to more Medicare plans, as we continue to #engage this population.
